I’m seeing in 70mm in a week and a half and I am so pumped. I also highly recommend Corbet’s first film, Childhood of a Leader—incredibly haunting and eerily prescient!

I just think the second half of the film eats itself and switches from an anti-capitalist immigrant story to what I read as objectivism. I cannot wait to fight specifically @kateyrich.bsky.social on this in a future podcast.

It's a stretch in terms of screen time, but one could argue that the film is the Eisenberg character's story, basically told from his perspective, and that you mostly see Culkin's character through him, so...I'm just happy the performance was recognized.

Yes! We never see him out of Eisenberg's character's conception of him. I think supporting doesn't just mean screen time--it has to do with how the story treats the character.

I see Eisenberg as more of a narrator role than the only lead character. I think this is a true two-hander and wonder what Lead performance is so strong that Culkin can’t compete with it for awards season. This isn’t exactly a year of “Daniel Day-Lewis for the sweep.”
