I haven't gotten mail in a week. So i called Canada Post to ask what was up. The mail arrived at noon (usually it arrives after 4:30) and contained a Xmas card from my MNA, which would have only had to travel 800m to get here lol

I signed up for their (dumb) MyMail tracking service and after seeing the number of pieces of mail “out for delivery” multiple days in a row, with some still not physically delivered weeks later (even though the app says “delivered” multiple times, they have somehow lowered my faith in Canada Post.
I'm a postie from CUPE 548. The corp is under ongoing investigation from the union for delaying mail to cut costs and manufacture a crisis during the CIRB investigation. The "SSD" system they implemented here a year ago generally delays mail already by up to 5-6 business days as is.
Cool tidbit: if you have mail that ran through a mechanical sorting machine, look at the back on the bottom. There will be a faint printed date from when it actually was sorted and ready to ship out from your local plant to your local depot (that shipment is supposed to be same day, generally)
Because we don't have mandatory forcebacks/overtime and the routes are now 50-70% larger, posties are dead tired and do what they can in 8 hours and then go home. This PDM (previous days mail) piles up and, because supervisors get a bonus for low staffing levels, relief staff are often not called in
Oof! Yeah, the US postal system is well on its way to privatization with that hub and spoke inefficient system. What did Noam Chomsky say? Something like "if you want to privatize something, mismanage and underfund it so it doesn't work anymore and people hate it. Then you manufacture consent to $"
It seems very clear that internationally there's a major drive to privatize any public services that can be monetized. The oligarchs are eager to take advantage of everything they possibly can, and circumstances are certainly in their favor at the moment.
Yep. For years a package would track to Springfield and I could depend on getting it the next day. This is just the most extreme of recent delays. Trump's appointing DeJoy (with his financial interests in private delivery systems) has been an efficient way to make private services seem preferable.
Just seeing this now. Sorry! I love to hear all that. Call me a huge softie but personal letters and packages are my favorite thing to deliver. Especially when people draw cool art or put little notes on em
I did mail our son a real Lunenburg county Christmas tree the first year he moved away. I am not so sure that the Oshawa letter carrier was happy about its bulkiness.
Here in the US I just now, today, got a package in my mailbox that was sent in September last year. I'd written it off as lost months ago. Maybe Christmas miracles are just happening late these days?

That's awesome! I wouldn't worry. They probably put it up for some overtime because it's a 2-person lift
