There are truly a lot of incredible solo game devs creating super impressive stuff.
But the media/streamers/gamers have really lionized the notion of a "solo dev" to the extent that it's become a major marketing hook.
So much so, that a lot of non-solo devs promote themselves as solo devs.

The issue is that it puts pressure on people to identify as solo even if they aren't. Or to work alone just so they can say they did it solo.
And it can be used quite cynically.
But if you are working with 3-4 freelance collaborators, you aren't really solo, right?
So embrace your small team status!
If other people provided all the SFX and music, and it's a core part of the experience, it's not solo anymore is it? The myth is misguided, sadly media loves that story.

A few bad actors might exist with hidden teams , but really the marketing advantage is fairly small.
And for gamers it's more often a negative now.
Mean I see a bunch of these threads and makes cringe.
Its a lot of assumptions and some blanket allegations at an entire group.
Makes me feel like i am under attack.
I see a lot of small publishers pushing the solo dev thing as a marketing hook and I don't think it's healthy, especially if it isn't true.
people yearn for this kind of storytelling because has been feed to everybody for year and year even when in most case it wans't true
