I'm a member of both the National Trust and the Royal Horticultural Society. NT owns more properties and its membership is about 1.5x the cost of the RHS's; the RHS has "partner gardens" which includes both NT and third-party properties.

I'd probably choose NT if I had to choose just one. However, Wisley (the only RHS garden near me) is in some ways better organised than many NT properties. It has refreshments scattered throughout while at many NT sites, they're at the entrance only.
Here at Sheffield Park for example, there's a hut that serves tea, sandwiches and cakes when it's open. Today it's not, so you have to go back outside the garden to get your tea and cakes.
They need to sort out this aspect of their service.
