An old World in Action feature from 1979 on home education, back when you could still get prosecuted in the UK for not sending your kids to school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xtiuVSd5kk #homeed

Wrongly prosecuted.
The Education Act 1944 provided that every parent must ensure that their child was educated ‘either by regular attendance at school or otherwise’ and the Joy Baker case established on 15/11/1961 that 'otherwise' meant children did NOT have to attend school for their education.
Interesting then that councils were still taking parents to court as late as 1979. I didn't watch the whole programme so I'm not sure how this case went. It was in Newcastle area.
