Remember, this is a showdown not over “the economy” but over Canada’s response to the Trump threat. Trudeau, clearly in the wrong, has for the second time driven a prominent woman out of cabinet to defend his electoral self-interest over the country
Men pretending to be feminists are the worst. Trudeau doesn’t just have trouble with high ranking women in Cabinet but also basic HR. Who tells a subordinate they need to make a critical economic statement & carry some dubious political water you’re going to demote them 3 days before that speech?
He's a pretend feminist. His ego and superiority complex come first. Not to mention just a total lack of awareness - like phony sounding Minister of Middle Class whatever created to promote a woman but diminishing her instead with the ridiculousness.
So disappointing…. IMO the pause on gst is a mistake, will be a significant loss in tax revenue, won’t make much difference for those who need the help; a cheque makes more sense IF it was going to low income folks; Freeland right to oppose it. PM losing good people…
I would be happier to have Canada’s social safety net and institutions be safe from the looming threat than save a couple dollars on booze and prezzies. But everyone has their priorities
I agree. Cheques going to anyone making less than $150,000 is ridiculous. The cut off should be closer to $50,000. And the fact that it’s a “Working Canadians Rebate” and won’t go to retirees or the disabled doesn’t make sense—they’re likely to be more in need than the employed.
The "who's wrong/who's right" on this particular event notwithstanding, it's only reasonable that gender equality in politics (and cabinet) has to include the risk of getting getting fired. What's the evidence that the PM's plan to deal with MAGA is gender-related?

As you well know, she breached her own professional obligations and oaths by releasing information to the Globe.
For the good of the country.
... he just can't "walk the talk."
It's rather patronizing to suggest a man cannot be a feminist if he shuffles a woman cabinet minister.
