I think deadname is for anyone changing their name. The first I ever heard people saying something was a deadname was due to divorce. After that was LGBT people who’d been rejected by their families (and wanted to change the dead family-name).

I think so. I imagine it went "I don't like my name being Steve. It should be Fred? No.. Dave? No.. Adam? No.. Pete? No.. Jake? No.. Kyle? No.. Will? No.. Hank? No.. Ryan? No.. Danny? Nah, 4 letters.. Dani? Way better, but it's a girl's name, like Alice... I actually really like Alice too.
