People who didn’t go to art school and who don’t know people who did really think it’s a place where faculty decide if students get to become professional artists or not, and no what it is, meaning school.

You take classes, you get grades. You either pass or fail your classes. No instructor is going around ‘I proclaim you to be an excellent artist, and you over there to be a terrible one.’
Nope! That’s another thing people don’t realize, you can be a professional at the thing without being great at the thing, be also great takes many, many shapes.
Lots of people treat university and college like trade school.
And some courses may be about *learning employable skills* but many courses are about learning how to learn and think and process and interpret information.

Being a good student does not guarantee you'll be a good [job].
(Unless you're using exactly the same skills you're good at - researching, writing papers, analysis, assignments, etc)
... but don't confer *artist* status on you!
