I get why people prefer the term ‘partner’ to wife or husband or boyfriend etc. But every time I hear someone say it, I think you’re talking about a guy who’s investing in your vegan doughnut startup.

Australia has very strong legal protections for de facto (ie common law marriage) couples. As a result they’re very common, so you’ll hear a lot of ‘my partner’.
I say partner for @benbumhoffer.bsky.social, we've been together for 15 years so not sure what else to say. Sometimes I explain it to the kids I nanny for that Ben is "my person".
