Just make tariff a verb and be done with it

I am begging fellow journos to find another verb that goes with tariffs than “slap.”

He tariffed their steel at 25% - is that actually English? It sounds like it should be

It should also be acceptable for the entire trade community to respond to "how are you?" with "I'm tariffed" this February.

Tarrified?

Tariffied was the inauguration to the Colombia weekend.

Since the Canada/Mexico weekend, we need a stronger term.

"Tariffic" - said with a tired smirk, indicating sarcasm.

Perfect

Those who benefit from trade protectionism could be said to have their noses in the taroff.

Un peu recherché, perhaps....? ;-)
