the fusing, cutting, and placement of the pieces took me a couple weeks and then i didn’t get around to sewing/quilting it for over a year (we moved). but total working time was maybe 3-4 weeks. this is the biggest one of this style i’ve tried, 27x37”

This is magnificent! I never knew quilts could be like this. I mainly knit and sometimes crochet and rarely sew, but goshdarnit, this is incredibly inspiring! How would one even go about collecting all of the scraps/fabrics needed for something like this? I could look at this all day!

my fabric stash is kind of enormous and a 15+ year collection. i do a lot of fussycutting in pieced work too. i love animals and halloween and space and keep a lot of those prints just because. i started working for a quilt shop in 2018 and i’m always looking out for prints good for cutting up!

Wonderful! It appears I'm a smidge behind. Maybe I'll just start collecting bits here and there and make something small like a lap quilt or pillow cover. Any recommends (tutorials, projects, methods of madness) for a beginner? (I love the word fussycutting -- I truly learn something new every day!)

there are so many different kinds of quilting! you have a wonderful world in front of you. i think the most basic place to start is sewing together squares (four patch or nine patch blocks) or strips. a lap quilt is perfect! there are tonnnnns of tutorials online

the moth is all fused applique. i add fusible web to a lot of different fabrics and cut out lots of pieces. i make a guide drawing on a plain muslin base and then fill it up with the pieces, and press them into place with the iron when i’m happy with the arrangement.

well you get the fabric with roses on it and cut in squares first. but you can skip that if you go straight to fused/machine applique and never piece 😅
