I'm Leicester born and lived there for over 50 years. It's certainly changed and I get that some people find it hard to accept. Leicester never really recovered from the Thatcher years, when it's industrial heart was ripped out. Most immigrant families have worked hard to make Leicester their home.

Leicestershire is a beautiful county and I guess, like a lot of old people, I remember the past through rose-tinted glasses. Unlike the Mail, I'd not stir up racial difference discontent. As an immigrant in Spain that would be hypocritical at best.

I have always been very grateful to have been raised in such a multicultural Country as the UK. I loved moving to London in the early 80’s, & my friends were from every part of the world. I dated a political refugee. It was quite an education.

I suspect these figures are also typical temporally - i.e. it has always been so - because one thing humans do, is move.
If we changed the map to show the percentage of our ancestors who originated elsewhere, then it's 100% for every country shown here.

North Brent is green. Southern part of the borough is more concrete. Quite a few changes. We now have a big Brazilian community in Harlesden/Willesden. The Irish is dying off sadly.

I moved to Leicester from North Essex! Couldn't have a greater contrast! Loved every minute, celebrated every 'Holiday,Carnival, etc that came our way.Loved the food,the people and the new things I learned about.
Britain has been a diverse nation since the Romans.
Leicester has its own 'Culture'!

I do think that the biggest impact social media has had is in the ability to mobilise fear amongst people who were previously not very politically engaged.

This is awful. And sad. I am white British. I am a forces child born in Kenya off a South African mother. My neighbours are South African on one side and Norwegian/Belgium on other side. No one bats an eye lid as white. I bet the browner English man 2 doors down is the target of the mail.

The comments on this are shocking. British: celts, mixed with romans, Anglo Saxons, Vikings, French, Germans, Africans & Indians during colonisation, West Indians, Poles during and after second WW, and on and on. And all of them descended from Indo-Europeans (ethinically dark).

My roots are from Galicia and a fare share of my family emigrated to Barcelona back in the early '60s and others to Buenos Aires and New York (my parents to London). All of my cousins speak Catalan almost singularly. I would say they all integrated. It's all a fallacy to produce suspicion and hate.
