Hi Robert, as someone unfamiliar with the US ecosystem i am of course deeply concerned. However, in the project 2025 report they write the NWS should become a data-gathering service and get stripped off its forecasting arm. This should mean the observing networks would stay in tact? any thoughts?

All I can say for sure is that there doesn't appear to have been anything targeted about these cuts, which seem to have hit all probationary employees regardless of what their job focus was.
