Or does this figure include when the government gave massive energy companies my tax money, who passed on the same amount in price rises and called it a βdiscountβ ?
First I've heard of it !
Labor is going to be More proactive in their Self publicity - you are up against ALL MEDIA as well as the LNP's own well funded spin-teams.
It's still something that Liberals never even thought of..
Well they DID - but just another meaningless Headline...
I believe we are still waiting for Abbott's $500 cheque...
I am against direct energy subsidies when our grid is still 60% fossil fueled. Jevon's Paradox and Price Signals should be well understood.
This is a pea and thimble trick. If you must give subsidies don't pretend you have brought down energy prices. Although I fear they intend to extend them.
Yabbut the subsidies don't necessarily mean people will buy more fossil fuel electricity.
Paying subsidies directly to households is inflationary. Subsidising power bills gives people more money to spend. BUT the price of electricity goes down - so less inflation as we measure it.
Our grid is currently 60% fossil fueled. When you make a good or service cheaper, human nature is people will consume more of it. We can assume that means they use more fossil fueled generation.
If the electricity subsidy was making electricity, say, 10% cheaper, there'd be an incentive to buy more.
Instead the subsidy is a rebate of $300 per household, regardless of consumption. That $300 allows the household to buy more stuff, which could include electricty - just as a direct payment.

I disagree on the energy use bit though.

Co-incidence?

Never heard of bills going down before. They must have trapped too much solar/hydro/wind energy. π€·ββοΈ
