hmmm I'm more in favor of doing yourself a favor and picking and choosing when the franchise you like "ends".
Go watch the first 3 star wars movies and stop there, you don't have to invest time in every single star wars property now.
But people can still pick up and tell more stories after that.

Corporations rather have an unending money making franchise, yes, however when the people and artists demand more is not as cynical, using these creative creations and concepts to make their own stories.

I've seen some people try to make the argument that at that point you should make your *own* thing, it doesn't have to be attached to the famous thing, let that thing die, but no, people are making very intentional choices to reuse old concepts and creative works, it doesn't have to be a new thing.

A bit of side tangent, the mindset that franchises should only be defined by their first couple of entries and iterations can lend itself to some reactionary thinking.
It's the backbone of grown ass men yelling "they changed things to be WOKE, [original creatives] are being disrespected!"

Dare to reuse and redefine things as many times as you like, make more spiderpeople.
When we tell more spider man stories we're not making a statement about Spiderman or the original artists, we're using Spiderman to tell our own stories.

As someone with a bachelors in writing I will say endings are hard but post-modernism has opened up the ending. You can just end. With the story unfinished. Or with its inevitable result implied or up in the air. I like those endings. I had 1 planned for my novel I’m not writing but am thinking

I’ve engaged with a lot of art that didn’t meaningfully and. 2 large and sort of acclaimed examples are infinite jest which studiously ends in the middle of a climax and the venture brothers which ended primarily because they were too slow to make their later seasons something late capitalism wanted

Meaningfully end* idk some endings are so perfect it’s impossible to imagine the art to even matter without them and others are like unimportant or superfluous. Like The Ones Who Leave Omelas doesn’t end when the people who leave build a new perfect society it ends when it admits people leave utopia
