It’s crazy how many people I’ve had to distance myself from after the election because when I found out if they voted they said something along the lines of “no, I don’t pay attention to politics”
As if it’s some high vibrational zen energy earth goddess take like yasss queen you go fuck rights 😞
Because of course, we know better than them what's best for them. The problem that often arises is, they also think they know what's best for us and we don't like it.
They are. That's a fundamental misunderstanding that has been foisted by "materialist" Dems like Pelosi who say everything comes down to "kitchen table issues." Just bc folks say "eggs are .50 more & that is my line in the sand" does not mean that's the real reason. It's not about money at all.
Gustave LeBon
"The masses have never thirsted after truth. They turn aside from evidence that is not to their taste, preferring to deify error, if error seduce them. Whoever can supply them illusions is easily their master; whoever attempts to destroy their illusions is always their victim."
They do vote for their own best interests, and you saying different shows you think you know more about their lives than they do. You don't. Your elitism (and most likely racism) is showing.
They think they are voting in their own best interests. Because the Republicans, at least speak to their anger and their frustration, and the Democrats don't acknowledge it. Everything is always sunshine and roses. With the democrats, they're completely out of touch.
I think this sort of mindset causes modern liberals to lose elections. Regardless of how true one may think it is, it's quite elitist and contributes to problematic "I know better than you" dynamic in political life.
That’s kinda why when people ask me what I’m doing for my community I ask what is my community doing for me? I’m voting to protect them and some of the more vulnerable people in it can’t even vote for themselves. Shit is unfathomable..
Collective ignorance among the citizenry is the result of over 60 years of deliberately underfunded and undermined public education as per the political right. Then much easier for sociopathic demagogues to lie to, misdirect, and otherwise gaslight people into voting against their own interests.
There is an element of our society that are too stupid to know how stupid they are. We try to keep them afloat and they just drag us down with them. They don't value education and don't embrace change, so the world has left them behind because they're either too stupid or lazy to do better.
Unfortunately we need to start getting aggressive with education and shunning certain people, the people who know nothing are much louder than the people who know something
This is what's so frustrating. The people that don't vote from themselves tell me the reason they vote the way they did and more often than not, it's based on misunderstanding, active ignorance, and being content to be fed information.
I think this is right. Most people have a very limited understanding of how government works. If you don't know how it works, then you can't appreciate the benefits or harms that result from a particular approach to government. And so you'll vote based on vibes, personalities, hunches, etc
The #FeloniousFascist is, inter alia, a demagouge, which is someone for which the Framers of the Constitution set up safeguards to prevent such a person from ever getting into the WH. All of those safeguards failed....TWICE.
...I am still grappling with this. I thought the worst was when Bush was elected....AGAIN!!!! after the Iraq War scandal...yet we have managed to outdo ourselves.
If you are interested in a really good read, it was for me anyways, it's called "Good Reasonable People" by Keith Payne. It broke down political identity for me on how/why people fall in line with their groups view.
There was some reporting by Thom Hartmann on the money they spent on getting their message to that group, lmk what you discover. I may pick it up anyways, we all could use another view on anything.
Active ignorance is never ‘finding the time’ to familiarize yourself with the details, never being willing to go into specifics, remaining credulous towards a pol or news source while acknowledging the steady flow of distortions & lies. If you have one, take a look at your FB tl [shudder]
Good question. Someone told me that less access to health care for women had nothing to do with the presidency, and if the 46th president wanted to change it, he should have during his term. I asked him if he ever sought news outside his echo chamber? ...no answer.
When someone doesn’t bother to look up definitions and facts. If I don’t understand what’s being said, I hop on the internet and look something up UNTIL I get a good understanding of it. Then I make my decision on what I think of it and to act or not.
I think he means something like wilful ignorance.
Anything that doesn't fit with what they believe, they reject and no amount of discussion or facts will change that.
Being woke to the point facts and logic are overridden by a belief system, goes for my side too. We have to get back to where we can come together debate topics and be willing to hear and listen
Maybe, just maybe, you don't really know what their best interest is?
You should vote based on your best interest and let everyone else do the same. If they vote "wrong" (I don't think there's such a thing) let them reap their consequences.
We call this the "perfect victim" in the biz. We make up a marginalized person who isn't helping themselves so that we don't have to do anything either.
It's just like saying all homeless people are secretly making a lot of money.
Unpleasant truth? This is why Democrats lost. They say they're y'all loving and respect minorities, but believe they know what's best for them. If minorities don't vote for whoever liberals want, y'all call them trash and bash them. You really show your true colors
I do vote in my best interests and so does my whole family. This is a heavily religious places, but they don't even understand the Christianity they want to pedal. They are too busy twisting it. Ozarks used to be socialist, not now
Ah, yes, and also we must convince them to be loudly thankful and appropriately appreciative of our paternalism as these stupid mudfucking dipshits aren't truly worthy of our attention!
It beats me. 50% of the households don't make enough to pay tax. Then you see some of them go gaga with Trump's promised tax cuts for the riches. The same goes with the tariff. They are the ones who will pay for it.
Trade wars—or disputes,—were quite predominant topics during the 1980s. We were supposed to have learned by now that tariffs don’t work in consumer-driven economics. Negotiating balanced trades is a better option. Trump’s efforts will also fail. Hopefully, this time, we’ll actually learn—again.
Aaaaand there’s the authoritarian holier than thou attitude. It’s what makes you folks so dangerous and why the country rejected you. Keep your so called kindness to yourself where you can’t hurt others. You belittle others and think yourself superior all the while acting magnanimous. Pretty gross.
And there is the dilemma. So when Trump speaks and sounds like an idiot, guess what? That’s what Trumpers mean when they he is one of them! He’s like them.

The savior complex is not bad thinking until you realize you’re actually looking down on people. Hope this helps!
