Careful some folks over-interpret that. You are only exempt from filing an income tax return if *100%* of your income comes from within PR. Even if you work on in PR, if you work for the fed govt, do business with the fed govt, are us military, or are PR company that sends money to the US... 1/
you must also file. That also does not include other federal taxes, such as payroll taxes. PR annually contributes about $4B in federal taxes, which is more than the states of Vermont, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, and Alaska. 2/
