I bought a second hand Weber kettle to try charcoal grilling. I made a roast chicken last week and today I bought an expensive steak and cooked it by a "reverse sear". The family all agreed it was the best steak they've eaten. Will definitely be using the it in future. #ChemistsWhoCook

I've never been successful growing eggplants with our short summer season. That's changed this year by planting the variety Nadia F1. Look at these beauties! 🍆👀 🌱

Read this: it really captures the reality of mass redundancies in the university sector, which will only snowball from here. voice.cymru/two-weeks-in...

Oh yes, Homer’s famous “Tes Thdpssssps.” 👍🏻

"The American people of today are not the same people as those who saved the world from fascism 80 years ago, and who over the following 45 years stared down Soviet Communism...the American people of today — or, at least, a majority of them — are frightened, angry, afraid, and insular."

The actions of the VMOTO board have now resulted in an application to the government's takeovers panel. #ASX yourir.info/resources/40...

Very pleased to be wrong!

Real inflation is still too high. The global environment is primed for inflationary events (tariffs etc). The RBA won't cut. #NoDraftFolderPunditry #IHopeImWrong

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

We just raised $350,000 raised for @translifeline.bsky.social and we are still going! I have a feeling we may break last year's record by Saturday morning! Prizes are posted in the thread below or browse the timeline of @giftsgiven.tolariancommunitycollege.com to see all the rad items going out!

I don't know why everyone is resigning. Just say fuck off and stay in your position til they fire you

"don't hate the player, hate the game" can't it be both? fuck monopoly and fuck you for making me play it

The warm weather has encouraged it to open. It's a lovely vivid pink. 🌱

I bought two miniature waterlillies back in 2020. The sole survivor is finally about to flower. It's either pink or peach (I'm leaning peach).🌱

SoCal friends: any idea what happened here? 6:15 pm-ish, headed southeast.

Hi European science friends ... One of our undergrads (an EU citizen) is headed back to Spain this summer. I'm wondering if there are any typical summer research opportunities for undergraduates that folks apply to. Any help in helping me counsel her would be greatly appreciated!!!

Labor should promise to boost or even universalise school breakfast clubs across the country. A perfect contrast for an election campaign surely

Spotify rolled right out of Guero into the Beastie Boys' Sabotage. Happy weekend y'all. www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rR...

Fortunately for #Chemsky we can have our memes and evidence too.

As I think most of you have worked out already, X increasingly not the place for discussion of scientific papers…

Beck's Guero remains an excellent album. #NowPlaying

Move slow and make things

welp

I really hate insurance. My insurer's "best offers" for my car, home, and contents have increased by 12%, 28% and 25% respectively for the next 12 months.

“Standing up for the people of Gaza is not antisemitic nor does it have anything to do with my Jewish brothers and sisters in Australia but everything to do with the Israeli government and their deplorable actions.” www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/f...

Just a reminder that people used to put paint and formaldehyde into milk and there had to be a huge movement to get proper food regulation, and without it people will die www.eater.com/2020/1/28/21...

My initial thought was, "Is this cake"?

I've been reading and listening to Peter's writing and podcasts for years. He strikes me as a decent bloke with a good heart. He and Gideon Haigh have a podcast/substack "Cricket et al" that's well worth a listen.

The McCarthyism in Australia continues. A long list of journalists, academics, artists, many others who have been targeted because they oppose Israel’s genocide. Facilitated by most of the media and political establishment. www.smh.com.au/sport/cricke...

The ongoing campaign of professional harassment delivers another scalp because Peter Lalor, a friend and former colleague, was concerned about a genocide in Gaza. www.theage.com.au/sport/cricke...

We recently had a birthday party here, and today was the day to take down the balloons. I took down the balloons in the most obvious way: with a two hundred year-old sword. Still sharp, I see.

The United States doesn’t have preferential voting. Labor is indeed pretty frustrating so you can vote for all the good non-bought candidates with spines then Labor then the coalition without falling for this bullshit scare campaign.
