Monopoly isn't much of a game tbh. Just buy anything you can, forget colors or value, scoop up all the cheap stuff, build a few houses, screw hotels, then try to get into jail. Then just sit in jail collecting rent from everyone else.
Had a game of monopoly go so long that I had to leave for the night. One guy was up by a bit and I bequeathed my properties to a friend who was close to beating his smug ass.
The look on his face was priceless. Screw you, Riley!
If I’m forced to play this game, my surefire way to play is to buy all the house pieces. So no one upgrades to hotels. Make sure you never upgrade. If Imma be miserable, everyone will be.
It’s similar to my strat for Ticket to Ride: acquire most routes & especially the one way routes.
If the games rules fail me i hate the game. If the player fails me then I hate the player. If the player has done something to harm me using the game rules it's not the games fault for being exploited.
The starting rules of Monopoly should be changed to fit reality. Each person should start the game with a randomly generated amount of money between 0 & 200 (whatever currency is normal for you).
It might make the wretched game shorter as well as becoming a more accurate depiction of capital.
Can we make a new, much better game where we still have winners but not put players in jail for no reason? Where you actually have to pay your way to help others because that’s how we succeed as human beings? Maybe we can call it “Monopsony” which is the actual opposite word?
How I feel every time my niece wants to play Mario Party and racks up stars off some bullshit
"You landed on the most Blue spaces, under a full moon, at 7:33PM! Have 5 Stars!"
My friends and I embraced the shittyness of the game, and made a new game. We called it scumopoly.
Every good sense of decency was replaced with good old extortion. You were encouraged to cheat and make unfair deals, but if you got caught publicly the punishment was corporeal. Pay up!
True. But Monopoly Deal is a very fun card version of the game, perfect for trips, and less likely to end in arguments/separation/divorce/estrangement/eviction/arson.
I ruined friendships playing Monopoly it's why my childhood best friend and I don't talk anymore (that and we lived together and oh my god unless it's in an emergency situation NEVER live with your best friends)
A friend of mine is still refuses to play monopoly again because I screwed her out of some property, pretending that she didn't do the exact same shit all while saying that she was helping me. That game brings out the blood thirsty, back stabbing, capitalist in everyone that plays it.
I’ve won every game of Monopoly I’ve ever played by desperately trying to loose. I’ll make the worst deals in history but still manage to get a monopoly on all the dark blue spaces. I hate that game. I’ve literally traded park place for Baltic avenue and still won. I’m cursed.
I feel this. Being accidentally supernaturally good at Monopoly is just made worse by the fact that a single game can eat up like 2-3 hours if you have a large amount of players.
I have always been forced to play against my will so I try to get out and I end up being there for 5 hours and accidentally collect everyone’s money. I hate it.
Same. It's pretty much a family get together thing and it sucks. Starting to think I need to get the older members of my family into Dungeons and Dragons or idk co-op FPS games.
DONT HATE THE PLAYER DONT HATE THE GAME
HATE THE TROOP MAN WE TAKE ALL BLAME
THAT YOU GOT NO MONEY YOU GOT NO FAME
THAT YOU GOT NO HONEYS YOU GOT NO NAME
Monopoly would be better if the winner had to eat all of their plastic houses to symbolize the nihilistic, self destructive avarice of man. Also it would be funny, too, I guess.
People over exaggerate how long a game of monopoly takes. It should be less than two hours. Usually an hour and a half. Stop using the free parking rule it just makes the game take longer!
In the game Clue we used we didn’t bat an eyelash when a player got murdered. Haha I’ve never looked at it in that personal way before. I want to finish my Clue player paintings before Maga offs me. I was often Miss Scarlet in that red dress.
I made the mistake many moons ago of playing it where everybody had to pay real money to take part, with the winner taking the pot. We were pretty broke at the time. It didn’t end well.
Yeah, and as you might expect, the original Monopoly was not even as fun as the modern versions released by (ironically) a board game monopoly. Even as someone who enjoys Monopoly, I still find it baffling that this mid-tier game is the improvement.

I wonder if I can get a anther multi day game of risk going? My dad said he had one go on for years.

The fun is OVER.
And flip the board.
