went back a bit to an older movie tonight, the first more _serious_ Hou movie released - The Boys from Fengkuei (1983) a nicely told story about three boys moving from their rural fishing village to the big city, and how it changes them. still have a few more from this director so stay tuned!

having a quiet movie night to myself does always remind me that I keep failing to sit down and watch more movies with friends, though. I miss it! feel free to bug me to do so! but even if not, I still have a mental list of people to poke to watch things. movies are just more fun together

continuing my crawl through Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s filmography, watched Cafe Lumiere (2003) today. I enjoyed it a lot, but I feel like the effect of his work is very subjective. it’s slow, but it’s composed. it’s intentional, but cobbled together. very pleasing watch! more of my thoughts below:

finally the stomachache abated a bit and I got pagliacci’s and a Rachel’s ginger beer and I think maybe life is worth living again

dude i have been sick as a dog all day, ate like half an instant ramen at 1pm and that's all i've been able to stomach beyond coffee and water, this shit suuucks

too tired and sad and maybe sick for this shit today

went to the humane society and saw a cat I had my eye on… he’s very sweet and playful but he also has behavioral needs I want to be sure I can support before I consider adopting him….

maybe I’m just tired but kind of an eh day

holding off on my other Edward Yang watches until I watch more of Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s stuff, watched Flowers of Shanghai (1998) today. pretty good movie! a drama piece involving the “flower girls” of 1880s Shanghai and the positions they’re put in by their job, callers, aunties, etc. boxd.it/8RMF8R

got some awesome games today from pink gorilla, so excited to play the xbox ones once I get an og xbox….

thinking so hard about going in and adopting a cat like…. in the next week or two oops look at this little creature

mark wahlberg voice: god told me to always double down in blackjack and also to atone for the sin of being in boogie nights

every time we get into this game vomit is involved

watched millenium mambo (2001) this evening. I’ve been planning to watch more Taiwanese and Hong Kong New Wave films, and downloaded some stuff from Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Wong Kar-Wai, and Edward Yang I’m planning on going through. loved this one! I think maybe Yi Yi (2000) next? boxd.it/8QKFpP

we saw mount eerie this valentines eve and got a lovely poster and shirt each, here the poster is in my kitchen

SPREAD THE LOVE đź’ž

one of the funniest / coolest things about seattle to me is how prevalent the “working nomad” thing is here. obviously every coffee shop is full of people working remotely and such but we even see it in other businesses too… person in the teriyaki joint is currently just laptop out working lfg
