Never expected to meet 100+ fire community, cry with strangers. I also meet each home. Fell in love with Altadena, the mountains behind… so many gardeners, melted composters, espalier fruit trees… Dead tired from volunteer days crawling into glass, rusty metal, nails. Lead dust. Sweat. All in. ❤️‍🩹🌱

I’ve been leaving excavated “fire survivor” objects in mail boxes (& at yard edge/curb when no 📫) #EatonFire Altadena. Maybe these small things can remind us we are resilient to enormous, terrifying forces, & loss. Somehow I’ve managed to carry them out of rubble. Sampled soil ALL day again.🌱

🌱 I dreamed giant pieces of coal were floating through my bedroom, every time I reached for one, it turned to silt - vanished into the air my partner, @jstpwalsh.bsky.social and I breathed. We are working on this post #LosAngeles fire soil study together, with Duke University. Grateful to Justin.

I asked for fire victims with burned homes to participate in our soil study & my phone blew up all day, at least 50 people. My heart is full & I haven’t looked at any doom news all day🌱 ❤️‍🩹 Prelim results coming & the relief of fire-adjacent is immense, they are SO happy to hear r tests are below EPA.

My friend lost her home in the #PalisadesFire and is in New Zealand traveling, unsure where to land next, owns only what she buys. It must be a freedom at times. There’s a Buddhist saying, “my barn burned down, now I can see the moon.” (Same friend I told to buy Manuka in post) #Bees #Beekeeping 🌱

Our soil study is needed more than ever now. We are partnered with a major university in the largest post-fire soil study, and only the 2nd. #PalisadesFire #EatonFire 🌱 Also, don’t wait for congress or corrup courts to save us, ACT ORGANIZE our constitution is in flames and ashes already.
