Our owl habitats - see previous posts and links, why you do not want wood⦠why you want an oscillating post⦠install with 3-4ā organic mulch, sun at the back.
Also we build cages with chicken wire for plant roots and no plant goes in without them in wild-adjacent areas with gophers etc.

šÆ, raised beds!
But I want them hinged so the kids can harvest & direct seed - easy access for all.
Black powder coated you donāt even see them! The hens will no doubt jump atop and eat anything that grows out the top, thatās their share!

Nope but youāre warm with the chicken part.

Close! I will repost with the finished product, but it IS to protect from chickens.

OMG it DOES, and it is not, but thank you! I should put wheels on that, add height and sell it as one! That would totally lower 1st fail loss costs!

What this study has taught me is that fire or no fire - you need to know your lead number anywhere that you have humans, dogs, fruit trees or food growing.

Well the whole idea of this study and hopefully all of the others is that we can help others be safer and know more in the future. I walked all over ash and debris in the Laguna and Malibu fires⦠none warned me.
Climate warming means more fires⦠I hope people can be safe.

Thanks. Itās been emotional, Iāve learned so much, it feels meaningful. I never imagined Iād have 50 fire community in my phone. Mostly Iām glad to have data for them. Iāve told ALL to test again after scraping, ( 1/3 end up re-dusted), but they keep asking (sigh). I hope theyāll be safe.

The non-burned soil data has no use, but storm drain pre fire data proves contaminants werenāt there before. Fire or no fire - homeowners need to test any soil they plant in, and know their lead numbers. Ca & EU max lead is 80ppm. Donāt grow food in anything that high. IF under max, add compost š±

We sampled in non-burned areas. Every home has a lead # (none are good). The graphs show the older homes burned are higher in all contaminants. Altadena / Eaton Fire homes were original and loved, so layered with lead paint⦠whole walls, washing machines, glass, metal, everything is in the ash. š±

Yes but if in the sun⦠microplastics in your plants/soilš I think we have to rethink the hot black plastic pots⦠all of it. We arenāt going to get rid of plastic quickly, but avoiding heated (food/sun) on plastic⦠ideal for safety. Less danger.

Not true, if Iād had to do all of that data you organized, Iād have died, also it would never have happened. A true collaboration of all three of us (thankfully Duke U. Had funds and Ph.D. Students!)

PLEASE wear a RESPIRATOR, gloves, long sleeves, leave shoes outside, wash hair & clothes ASAP post soil testing. EACH scrape anywhere nearby re-dusts you⦠particles small enough to reach your brain - no joke. How-to for soil sampling & where to send next, we may have UCLA funds to do workshops š¤ š±

The insta videos are sad - the scientist wearing zero respirator while telling the story of lethal contaminants (all the same we found in our study, and LA County as well). I am so sick of seeing stories about deadly contaminants showing folks without respirators, or taking them off to be on camera

Itās failing the entire coast of California - NO remediation of the burn sites ocean-close has been taken. Malibu can still save marinelife and birds. Ashley did $8,000 of her own money in testing and has baseline storn data pre fires. www.instagram.com/reel/DIPDJD1...

Yes, but itās great that thereās a preventative measure that corporate and residential buildings can use. Every state should make it mandatory in all windows!

Works for ANY building - residential too!!! It should be mandatory in every corporate and residential window - we have encroached on birds so terribly in urban spaces, which is why we have horrific rodent infestations in them.
