Absolutely. I went into The Stand years ago expecting more on the horror side of things, but came out of it with a slew of fantastic (and still horrifying) character stories. If it weren't for the masterful characterization, the tragedies and victories wouldn't be nearly as impactful.

Nah it's the app, not you. I used it for Japanese for years, and the only thing that was truly helpful was the kana practice to learn the alphabets. And when I learned that they use AI instead of native speakers now, I lost it. They're out here teaching bad intonation and ignoring conjugation. 😠

Not sure if this counts (it's been 20+ years since it came out), but the Deltora Quest series by Emily Rodda was a huge one for me in elementary/middle school. Otherwise, I was reading stuff like The Silmarillion by 7th grade, so idk what would count as "boys fiction" for that age group 😅

I quit Destiny 2 largely because of this. Solo difficulty is already a nasty level of bullet sponge, and it just gets worse if you add fireteam members or do the higher difficulty. Hour long missions to get through only two or three encounters are NOT fun 😑
