Everything so far this week has been overshadowed by Saturday’s watch of Parasite (2019) which I adored. That being said, I did enjoy the peaceful canoe trip around Latvian lakes in The Land Of Blue Lakes (2021). I could’ve indulged in that scenery for days. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

Woohoo! New week, and a new episode! Join us in a sleepy French village for some oxyacetylene based fun in Le Maniaque, Venganza Diabolica, De Psychopaat or just plain old MANIAC (1963) 🇫🇷🔥 bit.ly/4k4nl0A #HammerFilms

50 horror films in the first 47 days of the year. Not bad, not bad at all. boxd.it/BYXUG

This week’s highlight was the above and beyond expectation Yellow Sky (1948). Vampira (1974) was sadly mid-tier. Hilarity ensued from all three The Last Five Days films (2020/2021/2024), creating in-jokes of the world’s true evil forces: kumquats and persimmons #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

Last night I sawYellow Sky (1948) and it was truly glorious. I could watch a young Gregory Peck and Anne Baxter for days. It was so wholesome, yet compelling from start to end, and reminded me why I loved westerns when I was growing up. No idea why I stopped watching them, but need to seek out more

Got fed up with higgledy-piggledy the pile of recently purchased books by the back door, so rearranged them into an impromptu kitchen counter book nook. I feel more accomplished than lining up some books should make a person feel.

I’m excited. For tonight… Nosferatu (2024). 🧛‍♂️

A happy (late) find of Ravenous (1999). Thoroughly fun and with a super quirky soundtrack. Vibed my guilty pleasure of Plunkett & Macleane (not just because of Robert Carlyle). Heavily disappointed by Midnight Fear (1991). Very predictable, and the character of David was utterly disgusting 🤮

Apparently Warner Bros. is just straight-up posting old movies on their YouTube channel now. All within the last three weeks. There are 22 of them. Some stone-cold classics like Waiting for Guffman are in the mix, but most are DVD bargain bin fare. www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Still thinking about MadS (2024) nearly 24 hours later. I went in having only read the synopsis, and I’m so glad I did. It’s rare for a very well trodden horror theme to be revitalised, while also delivering stunning, stunning acting and beautiful photography. And it made me dream in French again!

Very mixed bag over the last few days, but Red Rooms was fantastic. Some intensely unsettling scenes with a score that burned into my brain. 100% of the reason I nightmared in French last night. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

The urge continues to grow to go and live deep in the woods, where my greatest concerns would be maintaining a toasty fire, not stepping in fairy rings, and keeping my cabin regularly saged to keep the ghosties out

Blimey! New Hammer in 2025!?!? Details here: johngorestudios.com/productions/ @hammerhorrors.bsky.social @househammerpod.bsky.social

Lisa Frankenstein (2024) was a neon ray of sunshine for a Monday. I went in a little hostile, not sure why, but as soon as I gave myself permission to enjoy it, I realised it was exactly my kind of (horror) love story. Plus I had a massive crush on Thackeray Binx in my youth, so that helped…!

Without downloading any new pics, where are you at mentally?

Spread of themes, genres, and decades this week. Burt Lancaster scored actor of the week for Elmer Gantry (1969). And Unwelcome (2022) was the unsung hero. “No hitty! Silly billy!” #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

Turns out my walk to work in the morning takes me via Silent Hill now?

I guess there was a theme to my 2024 viewing? It was clearly that I enjoy movies involving men who rock cravats, rather than me actively seeking out anything made by Hammer 😁 #LetterboxdYearInReview

It’s been classic-tastic recently. And yes, the theme tune to The Blob is still stuck in my head… *pop* #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

I don't know who needs to hear this, but the only one stopping you from disguising yourself as an ancient spirit of mossy gloom and learning the secret locations of all the libraries hidden in the forest is you.

If there’s one way to feel awful about yourself, it’s opening Instagram (without forethought) on New Year’s Day. Today will be a day of fending off the bad thoughts. Combined with the weather-sads, this isn’t the ideal last holiday day. tl;dr Instagram = bad

And, with added thanks to the good folks behind @househammerpod.bsky.social, I reached 90 Hammer films. Cannot wait for the upcoming line up, particularly She (1965). 👸 boxd.it/y5HeM

I also managed 227 classic films in 2024. Here, I’m counting classic as pre-1980, which I know isn’t true classic, but as an early 80s baby, that cut off point felt fitting. The 2024 Classics List has crossover with the Horror List, naturally, but here it is for posterity: boxd.it/ydoK6

In 2024 I filled my life with film. Determined to watch more of the things that bring me joy(?) I saw 289 horror films. Some total crap, some astoundingly great. So here we go, the 2024 Horror List: boxd.it/rnH9A

Amusing accidental pause of Time Without Pity (1957). I feel as if Leon McKern’s Robert Stanford was coming to get me Sadako-style…!

Closing the year by vexing my family with Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) as it was on BBC2 this morning. Neither have seen it, and now both are now utterly baffled. youtu.be/NEmScsUkbo4?...
