Got this from a member of the NASA resistance. It’s now hanging outside my lab in a display case, because we make space for everyone! Also, space embroidery, because you can never have too much #sciart 🧪🔭🎢

Brag moment- we just secured a grant to host the first-ever Oregon Astronomy Research Symposium (OARS)!!! For the first time ever, all self-identifying astronomers in the state of Oregon will come together at UO to share research, network, and forge new collaborations. Can't wait! 🔭🧪🎢

Random, but we were so confused this morning about the metal drilling sound in our house 😆 🪶

The University of Oregon students organized a walk out protest today in support of the immigrant community. Solidarity!

Tough day out there, so here’s a picture of Phoebe and Io, who don’t understand why you’d fold up a blanket unless you wanted a cat inside the folds

This morning, the US National Science Foundation fired 168 employees, approximately 10% of its workforce, for no cause other than they were the agency's most recent hires. 🧪 Co-workers are leaving supportive messages before they have to clear out of the building at 5 p.m. Sent to me by a source ⬇️

While I appreciate my university’s guidance on “keep doing what you’re doing” in light of recent turmoil, I’m not sure how any academic/scientist is able to keep normal focus as the proverbial seed corn that’s our lifeblood is casually flung into the fire

It’s about to get even worse out there. 🧪

This is a very disturbing story and you have to read it for that very reason.

Question- what animals are on my daughter’s toy for U and X? 🤔 🪶

Roses are red 🌹 Violets are blue If someone claims they saw aliens 🛸👽 It’s (probably) not true. 🔭🧪

Hey, astronomers! What are your favorite in-class activities for 2nd/3rd year undergrad astrophysics class? Mine is 2 hours long, twice a week, and I think we'd all be much happier if I didn't just lecture that full time period... 🧪🎢🔭

For those who need a cleanse on their feed, we had our first snow day today in Eugene! Went exploring the winter wonderland with my daughter 😊🛷

Astronomer here! If anyone needs a distraction, check out the GORGEOUS radio galaxies MeerKAT in South Africa imaged this weekend that were incidentally in my field of view. Both host supermassive black holes shooting material at relativistic speeds, hundreds of millions of light years away... 🧪🔭🎢
