Our economy needs immigrants. But Trump needs a reason to throw his dictatorial weight around, so he'll start with blue states where he will get the protests he needs to use as false justification to use force.

Given that people in states that voted for Trump are clearly bothered by "illegal immigrants", wouldn't it serve them better for ICE to start in their states? What state had the largest Trump victory? Start there and work down. Long before they get to blue states, people will see the problem.

Do protest but be peaceful. If anything unpeaceful happens, sit silently until police deal with it.

I don't think it's fair to trash him. I'm sure I disagree with him on most policy matters, but that doesn't mean he can't have morals. The fact that he stood against Trump in defiance of his party says that he does have morals. We need people with morals even if we disagree with them.

I think a "get money out of politics" platform would be great. Things like no congressional stock trading, dealing with Citizens United, and blocking elected officials from becoming lobbyists after leaving office. Explain that this money makes "your" representatives work for big money, not you!

I agree that Clinton's stance (and Bernie not managing to win that primary) was the cause of Trump 1.0. I don't really blame Obama (I do think the ACA compromises were a problem in that they made it less helpful and less popular. Trump removing the mandate to sink it made it better. He got credit.)

I disagree that covid had much to do with Trump 2.0. I think it was because of inflation + not enough progress. It took too long to get funding out for people to see the impact. Even if it had happened faster, it probably wasn't enough.

I agree that Dems have not done enough and that has led to the rotation of parties in power. They definitely need to do more. Imo, that needs to start with dealing with Citizens United. Big money has too much power which leads to our representatives betraying us to please them.

Trolls aren't worthy of an argument.
I'm debating following more people to see if I get more diverse opionons, but I mostly use Bluesky to get trustworthy information since mainstream media is unreliable now. As it stands, I feel like I'm getting what I want. (Thanks for helping with that.)
comment in response to

Maybe I've narrowed what I see too much based on who I follow. Or maybe I'm just so dead-center of the Bluesky community that I don't strongly disagree with almost anyone here.

Do I get shot for saying he did make some good points? Bluesky would benefit from more diverse opinions. A good debate can broaden your mind or change the mind of the person you're debating. You can't change minds if you're only talking to people with whom you agree. All I see is Dems and trolls.

I know "doing well" is subjective, but the conclusion of others making that argument is objectively nonsense. "Dems only made things a tiny bit better. Burn it all down! Elect Rs!" Ds did make major investments in the climate, some in helping the poor. Rs make everything ($, climate, health) worse.

Also, I've heard that the bill includes provisions that make it difficult to subject it to judicial scrutiny. That would also be unconstitutional.
comment in response to

Please, at bare minimum, fight to remove the part of the bill that makes it hard for courts to hold the administration in contempt. Blocking this power of the courts destroys the judicial branch's ability to check the power of the other branches. This is unconstitutional! (See 5th grade textbooks!)

I've tried to call my rep, Jeff Hurd. I can't get through by phone. It goes directly to voice mail with no option to leave a message directing me to email him. I have emailed him 4 times and gotten one form response. I feel very unrepresented.

I'm not a big fan of eggs, but I'll eat them by the dozen if I get paid $15/dozen to eat them. The dogs are eating the eggs, the cats are eating the eggs.

Listen to Murphy. Don't let it distract you. Yes it's bad, but it's a distraction.

He actually talked about it on some podcast (The Bulwark, maybe?). He's not sure if he's keeping it or not yet. (Cute stories about family debates over it.) Everyone seems to be growing them recently, though. I think it looks good on him.

In a recent poll, people were asked to compare each party to an animal. Democrats were compared to a deer in the headlights. We need to change that! Nobody want scared, weak, helpless people in charge of our country. They're all rich, but she's strong and fighting on the side of what's right.

I'm from very, very rural Colorado. (911 response can be an hour.) If you tell someone to get off your land 3 times and they don't, you can shoot. Large immigrant population, many gun owners (including me)... Rural Colorado may well end up being the location of this test.

This really begs the question of what exactly his agenda could be that he would expect them to attempt to obstruct. Seems unlikely that his agenda is to help people in horrible situations. Why would he expect them to try to obstruct that?

I'd never heard of you until seeing you on Raging Moderates. Nice job! Anyone who hasn't seen this should. Keep up the good fight! (And if you feel like telling Jeff Hurd you're fighting for me since he won't, I'd approve that message. He won't answer my messages.)

Having been on medicaid while fighting cancer, I can tell you just how much means testing would suck. I started the battle with nearly 10k in resources. A year later that was down to under 1k. Medicaid doesn't pay your bills. Means testing = forcing temporarily disabled people into bankruptcy.

I sincerely hope dems are paying attention. His name recognition alone is a huge advantage in primaries. Everyone needs to know how much he sucks.

I appreciate that you care about working families. I'd really appreciate if you'd also work to at least get the part of BBB that keeps courts from holding the administration in contempt of court removed. Courts need to have the power to stop the most destructive policies and save democracy.

These are not small things, but if he's not planning to make them here, why tariff them? Just to get more tax money from the people who can barely afford to buy clothes at all? To get another deal for a golf course in exchange for lifting that tariff? He is the small thing.

It's a horrible feeling to hope that enough senators are worried about national debt to save our democracy.

This has been making me feel sick and nobody seems to be paying attention to it. Taking away food and healthcare are horrible things, but we can eventually get them back. This is worse. Courts are the only thing holding the line now. We can't afford to have them made powerless.

I don't know if this is true or can be proven or not. The problem is, whether it's true or not, it will never be pushed. Pushing it will come across as being like Trump and claiming the election was rigged. Also, the next election is even more likely to be more massively rigged.

I've tried multiple times to call mine. It goes to a voicemail with no option to leave a message. I've emailed twice, marked the box to request a response but got none. I'm even a registered independent so you'd think he'd be willing to at least communicate with me.

Thanks for calling that out. Now go call it out to Republican senators in states that will have funds cut for their states. The IRA did so much for rural, red areas. It's completely illogical for those senators to vote to undo this and hurt their own states, their own MAGA voters.
