I assume they’re using assembly language?

I find I can remember most stuff, even a few months later. Where I struggle is screws; but I’ve started using a sharpie to number screw holes to correspond with screw trays. Comes off with IPA once assembled and so easy to do. Never had an incorrect screw placement since! 😁

Forces the SCART input into RGB mode. Normally your device would need to pull pin 16 to TTL low (I think) to do this. This is super useful because some devices don’t do this properly.

Amazing! Well done everyone 👏👏

This is the Philips.

I think it’s very similar to the Philips CM8833 which had SCART and a TTL CGA style input.

If you know of the existence of any of the tech docs for the PC-33 or indeed the three ULAs on the mainboard, it would really help us! 😍😁 @mogwaay.bsky.social is reverse engineering parts of the board at the moment.

Fab to know that Ferranti alumni are on BlueSky! I stumbled across an old Ferranti computer (the PC-33) and we’re trying to coax it back to life. :-)

Chris has started reverse-engineering the motherboard to understand how it works and where the fault might be. If anyone has experience with these machines—or Ferranti PCs in general—we’d love to hear from you! 4/4

My PC diagnostic skills are still in their early days, so my friend Chris (@mogwaay.bsky.social) came to the rescue, first online, then in person! 😍 3/4

One of the more interesting design choices is its two power supplies, supposedly to distribute heat evenly—meaning the case only needs a single fan. 2/4

Boring white guys like me must take this stance. People think it’s ok to make casual racist remarks to me.
It’s not.

That’s a brilliant thing. I’d be so tempted to design & print some pens or modify existing pens. Can you hook it up with a computer?

It’s heartbreaking to watch. For now, we’ve got a semi-sensible government here, but it feels like the alt-right are just one bad election away, and the left aren’t offering Joe Voter a compelling enough alternative. Sending solidarity to my American LGBTQ+ friends right now.

The hardest thing for me is to be kind to a bigot, but I try. Not to accept their views, but to acknowledge and understand their story. It can be effective. I’ve seen hate stem from misunderstanding-I know it won’t change minds, but it can create space for another viewpoint.
I sound like a hippy. 😂

Amazing work! It’s surprising how much damage electronics can take and still survive. Do you get any audible ringing from the PCB?
