Looked up the board of NJ Appleseed. Tiffanie Fisher (Hoboken councilwoman against mixed-income housing) and Cynthia Hadjiyannis (Rand for Ward D council in JC on a single-family zoning platform) are on the board ... This is a NIMBY organization masquerading as a public interest law group.

"Homes for All Newark" and the NJ Appleseed Center strike again. I find it disturbing that the Director of Policy and Advocacy for NJ Appleseed, which has also blocked micro-units in wealthy Van Vorst in JC as well, is on Solomon's ticket as a Ward D council candidate.

This 18-story proposal for 417 Communipaw sparked much controversy in 2020-2022, including NIMBY lawsuits. At the time, some of us wondered how it could be financially viable in that location, especially with the suite of givebacks. Turns out it wasn't. Developer now proposing a 7-story building.

The CT GOP is engaging in a coordinated screed against HB5002 by lying through their teeth: "Newtown has a long history of responsible and community-driven land use policy" Too bad Urban Dispatch keeps receipts. Newtown has kept housing from 853 families over the just last four years 🧵

Our next entry is Yousef Saleh running as part of Fulop's Democrats for Change in LD-32. Saleh talks about zoning, rent regulation, and his support for the 150 Bay Street project in downtown Jersey… https://betterblocksnj.org/2025/06/04/yousef-saleh-answers-the-better-blocks-questionnaire/

I seriously doubt that anybody who asks questions like this about a parking requirement of 0.5 spaces per unit is qualified to be a councilperson or even a cashier at a grocery store

This is a central political-economy challe nge for land-use liberalization: many big developers *like* stricter zoning, impact fees, givebacks, IZ, etc bc it puts up barriers to entry for smaller competitors without the sophistication and deep pockets needed to navigate all that.

Some news for you: A large number of new buildings are going up in Jersey City.

Second block-long traffic backup this week on my block caused by zero parking enforcement by Jersey City. Car illegally parked on the corner blocking a truck from turning results in backups like this regularly here.

March 13, 1913: Fred Rodman Law becomes the first recorded person to attempt rocked-powered flight by launching himself in an 44-foot rocket from the foot of Williams Ave (at the Morris Canal), Jersey City. The site is today occupied by a Chevrolet dealership and Route 440.

A bill before the New Jersey legislature sponsored by LD-31's Assemblywoman McCann-Stamato could lead to greater housing affordability in New Jersey. New York, Austin, and Denver all do it. Why can't NJ? Read why we need it by @3underscores.bsky.social betterblocksnj.org/2025/06/01/s...

Seems bad. Does anyone know how it's gone in the past year? www.newhavenindependent.org/article/incl...
