I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

I feel the same way. I used Twitter to keep up with the news and here has been the best replacement, but the news of is the biggest source of doom and it's hard to work around that, especially since "doom" is addicting. I'd love to get back into the headspace of only caring about my hobbies again

If you want to write heroes in the year 2025, you have to decide what they stand for, and then stand for it. The mealy-mouthed, offend-no-one approach no longer works. People respond to the Walter Whites bc you can put truth in their mouths. So put truth in the mouths of the good guys.

Conversely, why have 'good guys' become so cringe, so unrelatable, so one-note? Bc 'good guys' are historically portrayed as rule-followers. Law-abiders. Both-sides-ers. For the last few decades, that means that the 'good guys' end up defending the same broken system *that produces the villains.*

Taxing the money for the public is a much better route than just hoping a person with warped empathy skills is just feeling philanthropic that day. Trickle down economics is a lie; just tax the money like normal and use it as needed
