But you don't have to worry about the US's unjust practices around the world, because we're dribbling out a little bit of support in the form of USAID, so we can pretend we're addressing the problems we created. That is the basic role USAID served at home. It's important to see this.

Is it bad that lots of near term suffering is happening? Of course. But instead of say, USAID delivering HIV/AIDS treatment... why can't global south countries just make cheap versions of western patented drugs? Because enforcing US patents is more important than African lives.

Lots of commenters talking about USAID's PR value in other countries, failing to note the PR value that it has bought at home in the US. People who think USAID is a charitable project, and not a tiny band aid over the wounds that US policies dish out every day.

So, given that the resources exist for global south countries to develop and address their own problems, why did USAID exist? Because, all those countries are neocolonies, except for the few who broke from the US order and became pariah states as a result.

It's kinda remarkable how cunning this new vaccine policy is, when the ultimate aim is so idiotic.

Well, if your chief concern is to not "sabotage the leader of Canada" (by reporting on the things he's going to do?) I'm not sure how seriously I take your concerns about the accuracy of the press.

If anything that's more reason to amplify it! I mean, my default assumption is that someone in the PMO made a phone call to get it yanked.

I sympathize, but then I get caught up in the problem of needing to recommend somewhere else to go. Is it bsky, the place where Palestinian accounts go to disappear? Is it the confusing technical mess of Mastodon? All of the socials are garbage. I don't know what else to say.

Would love to see the other pages of the mailer. Just curious if the NDP have any ideas to run on, or if it's all advertisement for their opposition.

"The [Liberal Party] platform... suggests Solomon will have a massive job touching nearly every aspect of the economy and with national security considerations." Yet CBC itself fails to mention they fired this dumbass for violating the most basic of journalistic ethics www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

results like this for a party with absolutely no mainstream media coverage are stunning

The opposite of that, I think. Voters have precious little interest in fourth-rank parties whining about electoral minutia, everybody's busy trying to survive. The NDP needs bold ideas that speak to people's realities. Keep PR in the platform, sure. But it's not campaign headline material.
