While we are pointing the finger at identity politics we MIGHT be overlooking the fact that Trump is either trying to make the US vulnerable to attack or installing his yes men in the military so he can order them to attack the US or both.

This is a bigger blow than the obvious racism of the firing. The Joint Chiefs are the single remaining threat to his coup, so if he installs a loyalist at their head, it's a huge obstacle to any attempt to organize the military in defense of the Constitution.
