Honestly, I saw SINNERS because of word-of-mouth from other Black people, and I think that's saying something.

The Wikipedia critical reception section for movies is always so blindly White. Only one critic of color is cited for SINNERS.

It’s indie bookstore day why not hit up your fave local bookstore for your very own copy of Cinema Her Way by @oldfilmsflicker.bsky.social featuring illustrations by yours truly? What a great idea!! bookshop.org/p/books/cine...

Of the major sports, the NFL might have the dumbest run franchises.

It was a pleasure to speak with Odie about SIINERS, because as always he's both on top of it and so incredibly funny and brilliant.

ON SWIFT HORSES with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Jacob Elordi now at the Belcourt > bit.ly/ON-SWIFT-HORSES

This whole thread, including the articles. Critique & analysis are good! Talking about our differences on art & creative works is not just good but crucial to expanding our capacity to understand each other as well as creative work in general!

"I’d take Satan’s guitar lessons." @odienator.bsky.social and @812filmreviews.com talk SINNERS (spoilers)

I loved ON SWIFT HORSES out of TIFF. I’m fully onboard the Jacob Elordi train. My review via Screen Daily.

Star ratings are for judging whether or not a movie succeeds at *being what it's trying to be,* not how good it is compared to other movies.

Odie (@odienator.bsky.social) and I had to get spicy about Ryan Coogler’s SINNERS. He’s positive on the film, and I’m bit more mixed. Here’s our convo on the Blues, passing, sensuality and Michael B Jordan for @ebertvoices.bsky.social.

The general problem with star-rating systems is you get responses like this.

for the night crowd

Immediate click.

Odie is cooking here.

"This is the kind of film you see late on Saturday night and try your best to forget in church on Sunday."

This is an excellent conversation! Sinners is absolutely my kind of messy with what Coogler took on, even if I could see its faults.

This is a great back and forth that articulates everything I loved about the movie as well as the things that frustrated me.

If you're reading the excellent conversation me and Odie had over SINNERS, I'd suggest reading his phenomenal review too.

Great conversation, and included at least one casual observation that made me go "ohhh, yes, that's an excellent point." Not spoiling what that was, but it's a pleasure to see two insightful critics discuss a movie worth their attention.

Super spoilery, but you can catch me chopping it up with Odie Henderson over Ryan Coogler's SINNERS here.

Gareth Evans' vicious and brutal action flick HAVOC takes far too long to get going. But there are two exceptional set pieces to go along with Tom Hardy. My review.

“Maybe I’ve just spent too much time around Southern uncles who loved their liquor too much, but that voice took me places.” — this is amazing stuff

Dude I can read anything that @812filmreviews.bsky.social and @odienator.bsky.social write up, but reading their back and forth discussion on Sinners is satisfying as heck. www.rogerebert.com/features/rob...

Really dug this conversation!

A conversation between @812filmreviews.bsky.social and @odienator.bsky.social on Sinners?! Yes please!

Aight time to do some reading

“I find the fluidity of Mary to be fascinating. Her identity is messy and complicated, erupting all sorts of feelings about passing.” This conversation between @odienator.bsky.social and @812filmreviews.bsky.social is great, but the exploration of Mary in particular is must-read analysis.
