I just want to stop as much human suffering as possible. I don't think that's too much to ask. #ActuallyAutistic

BUT, she continued, the slow process enables better SCOTUS decisions. She concluded by saying SCOTUS should hesitate to overturn nationwide injunctions - "We shouldn't be so quick to just say 'they got it wrong, we can change it.'"
Nothing in this view contradicts her dissent in CASA.

Plus, he won an election. When people vote for someone whose positions you disagree with, you get to deport them. I'm pretty sure that's in the Constitution. Or the Bible.

Furthermore, we know from cdc data last year that a stunning 25% of trans youth have attempted suicide, and nearly half of those attempts were severe enough to require hospitalization.

I'm not enough of a historian to debate the merits of that specific comparison, but what I will say is, the strategy is pretty apparent.
They have used existing ICE to provoke on the ground outrage and resistance in opposition strongholds.

@cdarwin
Oh, but it's so much worse than that.
Because, not only did the SCOTUS essentially give Trump full executive power to do whatever the hell he wants re: birthright citizenship, but he is now fully empowered with his own federal army -- in this case, ICE -- to invade even "blue" states […]

The definition of "illegal support" will become more and more expansive.
So will the definition of "illegal alien," as they aggressively erode birthright citizenship rights and the rights of naturalized citizens.

This is not a force to deal with "immigration."
Once you get rid of due process and birthright citizenship, there's no clear answer to the question of who is an immigrant.
Everyone is an immigrant until proven otherwise, there is no opportunity for proof, and what is proof, anyway?

They will almost certainly use this aggressive large-scale expansion to create situations where ICE attempts to 1) provoke and 2) brutally put down those resistances.
This is their pretty obvious game plan.

The definition of "illegal alien" will expand to suit their needs and detention capacity.
The definition of "illegal support" will do the same, in tandem.
We have already seen them repeatedly attempt to define congressional oversight as illegal support.

These numbers mean that what we have seen from ICE so far is barely a warm-up act.
This is the kind of budget you put forward when you are ready to go to war with your own populace.

This is not about immigration.
This is about implementing totalitarianism.
It won't matter what the law is, especially now that SCOTUS has just tied the hands of federal judges when it comes to implementing national injunctions.
Any court relief will now be slow and piecemeal, if observed at all.

Now is a time to get very clear on who you want to be under a domestically genocidal totalitarian regime.
Genocide has always been a foundational part of the US political project.
But modern, fascistic industrialized genocide at this scale is a novel beast for us here.

@heidilifeldman Thanks for helping those of us understand what 's going on better; as a non-lawyer it's extremely useful to understand what exactly is and isn't normal, and how to better interpret the hug mess we are in. Thanks.

9. In the face of mounting attacks, it’s easy for LGBTQ+ people in the United States to feel crushed beneath the weight of it all. But moments like Budapest remind us that even under the most repressive regimes, our communities still rise. People all around you have your back.

7. The move mirrors strategies employed by some U.S. cities. In response to bans on flying the Pride flag, municipalities such as Missoula, Montana; Boise, Idaho; and Salt Lake City, Utah passed resolutions declaring the Pride flag an official city symbol to get around bans.

5. Most recently, the Hungarian parliament passed legislation declaring pride parades illegal. To reinforce the ban, lawmakers approved a constitutional amendment prioritizing a child’s “moral development” over all other rights, including the right to peaceful assembly.

4. Hungary has increasingly restricted the rights of LGBTQ+ people. Laws enacted include a ban on legal gender recognition for transgender individuals, a so-called “LGBTQ+ propaganda” law designed to censor LGBTQ+ content in media and schools, and a prohibition on same-sex couples adopting children.

3. Mayor Karácsony was also flanked by a person wearing a "protect the dolls" Tshirt, a printed phrase popularized by actor Pedro Pascal and musician Troye Sivan in support of transgender women.

2. After protestors marched across the Elisabeth Bridge, Gergely Karácsony said, “You don't look like you've been banned… You gave the finger to the pompous, hateful government.”
He was joined by 70 members of the European Parliament, mayors from other cities, and organizers.
