It's time for another round of US tech services clearing out, isn't it.

[uspol (and global tbh)] Useful summary on the #NeoReactionary movement that seems to be using the #MAGA wrecking ball as an accelerationist tactic to take down the entire system we’ve lived our lives in. Also, TIL that JD Vance worked for Thiel, and was funded by him for Senate […]

[uspol] Wow. The US is a global fucking embarrassment.

Just managed to fight back against my worst instincts and NOT push a @manyfold release on a Friday afternoon. Friday morning I might have done, but the kids will be home in 10 minutes, so it feels like a bad idea 😄

Just realised that my new Matrix homeserver *also* works outside my house. It's always surprising when things you forgot to test Just Work.

Just wrote my first custom #Rubocop extensoin to check that Pundit policy_scope is being used in all the right places in @manyfold. It's very very early stage code with no tests and in a complete mess, but it works! https://github.com/manyfold3d/rubocop-pundit

Oooooh, new #EliteDangerous ship from my favourite in-universe manufacturer; the Gutamaya Corsair. Definitely going to be getting one of these day one.

Free markets and personal liberties are "underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion"? Bezos has obviously been on another planet for the last 40 years. If you want to fill a void, Jeff, I've got one for you, right over there in the fucking sea.

🥳 Manyfold v0.102.0 is out, with a few bugfixes and improvements, but as we mentioned last week, the main change is that we're no longer providing 32-bit ARM builds for old hardware. 64-bit ARM will always be supported though, so as long as you're running on something fairly recent, you […]

Anyone know about about the #DockerSwarm routing mesh? I can't seem to access containers running on other worker nodes (e.g. when accessing a service proxied through caddy), and the ingress routing doesn't work either. The proxied services work OK on a single node, but apart from ingress […]

"I am ALTERing the TABLE. Pray I do not ALTER it any further."

NOTICE: We are planning to drop the 32-bit ARM release soon. Currently it's breaking our Docker builds, so we can't release; the other platforms work. The only person using is that we know of from our usage reporting is main developer @Floppy, on an outdated Raspberry Pi! If *you* are using […]

3 MIN SURVEY HELP NEEDED PLS! <3 (needs to be done before 1st March 25) For my final year project for my BSc in Psychology (Hons) Degree with the Open University, I'm researching factors influencing therapy-seeking behaviour. Adults 18+ in the UK and EU are invited to complete a short […]

Random thought; how long until the US turn down the GPS accuracy?

Fascinating research results on #Aphantasia; definitely lines up with my own personal experience! https://youtu.be/m9kLc_-iqIE

Listening to Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds, for an altogether more enjoyable apocalypse.

Whenever I talk to people about abusive big tech, people ask me why I *do* trust Apple (more than the others); this is why. Rather than backdoor their security, they'd rather just disable it completely for people in countries that don't allow it. IMO, that's the right decision on their part […]

We're proposing a common standard for including metadata in 3d model downloads, using the standard DataPackage format: https://manyfold.app/technology/packaging.html Feedback and suggestions for improvement / extension are greatly appreciated! Reckon we can get the other hosting sites to come […]

Seriously considering buying an eyepatch.

Just signed up to join @ethicalsource, in the hope that I can help one day find a way *beyond* pure open source, that reflects my values and desire to make sure my work contributes to a *better* world. Not easy, but as @jens just put it, "If ethical use is not in scope for [the Open Source and […]

Many great things are made by awful people. But these things are not linked; you don’t *have* to be a terrible person to make great things. It’s a *choice*. So, there’s no need to give terrible people leeway just because they made something great.

I see that DHH, living antithesis of the Ruby MINSWAN principle, is once again proving the need for a Rails fork.

I'd really like an option on my #3DPrinter to "print mirrored"; just flip the entire sliced plate in the X direction. Feels like it should be simple enough to implement in firmware somehow?

Unsolicited recommendation for https://depot.dev - they're always so helpful when I run into a problem. ❤️

You know why we Germans are so pedantic about data protection? Someone around 90 years ago went through all records available, selected people with certain criteria, with the help of IBM, and then killed them all. We don't want to be on any list. And now the US Gov and Musk is trying to get […]

I think the "running a matrix homeserver" part is done ish, but the "making the caddy proxy connect to the conduit docker swarm service" part is what's screwing me up. Yes, this is a self-inflicted problem once again.

Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.

Bringing this highly requested feature to #Mastodon and the fediverse is not as trivial as some might think, but quote posts are coming. Here is our latest write-up about our progress: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/02/bringing-quote-posts-to-mastodon/

🥳 Manyfold v0.101.0 is out, with a really fun new feature: Themes! There are 26 UI colour schemes to choose from, thanks to Bootswatch, so now you can make your instance a bit more your own. We've also got a big bugfix for 3MF file display, particularly for files that use the production […]

My Fediverse feed has been pretty good at not becoming a perpetual doom machine, but the state of the world is *so* fucked that the doom is even getting through here. I can't even imagine what it's like outside my nice little bubble.

Daughter has just finished this little guy. No pattern or anything, she’s just blowing my mind with how good she’s become at this stuff.

>We will not be discouraged in our fight against far-right ideologies. They are currently on the rise in many parts of the world, and we believe it is important to protect all kinds of marginalized groups. However, if you believe this does not affect your project, you are wrong. Far-right […]
