@christof Yes, they should have provenance information attached, if only for verification and quality control purposes. But the whole idea seems to be to separate the abstract "idea" from its context so that it can escape copyright controls, including the moral rights of the originators.

@Floppy I doubt that they will do so - firstly there are three alternative satellite positioning systems (European, Russian and Chinese) and secondly, President Musk probably needs it for his cars' navigation systems.
