I already figured out who set those Tesla chargers on fire in Littleton MA https://mastodon.social/@mem_somerville/114100979017191345

So I made a run to the place I take old Mac’s down in Rhode Island today (Unicom in Cranston - he repairs, refurbs and repairs and resells Apple hardware) I open the door and am immediately ambushed by two immensely enthusiastically friendly older cats who are apparently the Guardians Of The Door.

Did a little bit of a binge of Season 1 of “Westworld” last night (which was not a great call for my mental processing as it turns out 😂) but it resurfaced a joke which I loved. Re: glass half full/empty “We’re engineers. It means the glass has been manufactured to the wrong specifications”

So, now that we’ve watched the most recent Severance episode & reading social media, seems like Seth Milchick has lost a LOOOOOOOT of fans in just a few short minutes of airtime. That was a brutal episode.

Oh look. It looks like President Zelensky in fact HAS said thank you for US support for Ukraine. He thanks the President, Congress and the everyday American people. So…maybe JD Vance needs to STFU.

If your laptop ran on coal, you literally put charcoal briquettes into it to make it run, and smoke came out the back, you’d use it less right? Or if your laptop ran on tap water, but its exhaust was brown & chunky liquid, you’d use it less right? Or if your laptop left acidic stains on the […]

What's with this trend of companies shelving their "points" programs recently? So far, Amazon Coins, Nintendo Gold Points and Marvel Insider Points have announced these changes in the past week. Some type of new legislative rule banning such programs?

“New” car update elebentybillion: So it turns out that while I THOUGHT the car didn’t have massaging seats (it wasn’t listed on any of the options sheets) I was wrong. The drivers seat massage function activates once you turn the stereo up loud enough. weird design choice, but 🤷🏻‍♀️ […]

Hey, for anyone who is interested: #Boston Dyke March ( @BostonDykeMarch ) is re-issuing their 2024 Pride “We Will Not Be Exterminated” T-shirt and donating the proceeds to help trans folks in Massachusetts. They’re on sale until Feb 28th […]

In my tradition of only finding hour about things I want to do at the absolute last day, apparently the Brattle in Cambridge has been showing “The Fall” since Friday and today is last showing of the 4K restoration 😱 I’m spontaneous because I have to be, else I’d never do anything. 😂

When I’m making breakfast in the morning on weekends, I ask Siri to make a timer for my home fries. And for some reason, I then say, to myself. “Now the fuse is lit …is lit”

🎶It wasn’t a box It was a BOX LOBSTER!!!🎶

One of the things I find continually amusing about social media feeds is the completely random posts in agreement from two different people. 😂

Things have been so much better since they started congestion pricing and I can't help but think the attempts to break it are just... petty. Anyways there is a rally @3 in NYC times square. Gotta get my wingtips on and catch the bus down there.

Shouldn't have to say this but anyone posting takes involving IQ is automatically creepy and presumptively eugenicist

From rosalarian @rosalarian (I assume) over on BlueSky “In my city there is one cybertruck and one DIY parody of a cybertruck and the parody truck has become a local celebrity. Meanwhile, I always wish I had some rotten eggs to throw at the tesla whenever I […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Was browsing and ran across Autocade (h/t to @lucire for the link, and I noticed this little note on their website. Nice touch. “Written by humans”

My takeaway from this thread is that some scientists REALLY fukkin hate frogs. https://bsky.app/profile/pookleblinky.bsky.social/post/3lif5gtf5rc2j

NGL, I squeed a little when I realize the “SANS” is based on the ‘bots from “Interstellar” (TARS, CASE) https://youtu.be/5nKk_-Lvhzo

Dear Makers Of “Spreadable” Cream Cheese: The consistency you are looking for is: “Softer than Cream Cheese” NOT “Cool hWhip” You May Go.

For any folks who are old enough to remember: When Elon Musk finally keels over and dies(my money is on ketamine overdose)… it’s gonna make the circus that happened after Howard Hughes died look like a puppet show. I hope I’m alive to see it. Preferably really, really soon.

I hate it when I reply to a post and the realize I forgot to like/repost it. 😂

OK, that’s cool! I had never tried that (or in fact, even noticed that button lol ) https://toot.majorshouse.com/@majorlinux/113997654746873321

Time for a footnote to this: nearly 40 years of writing my stories on computers has taught me two things: 1. Always have backups. More than you think you need, too (backups can go bad). 2. Always have an exit strategy from a hardware, operating system, or writing software choice: vendors can […]

I really love Black american culture. But, also more and more I keep wondering why is it OUR job to explain who America is to itself? The work of Black artists does this consistently with precision and clarity. A mirror, a commentary on wherever the country […] [Original post on sauropods.win]

“70,000 people in a stadium yelling "a minor." Christ” ( @phil_lewis_ over on BlueSky) https://bsky.app/profile/phillewis.bsky.social/post/3lhrz6etk4222

“I think an American flag created entirely by black men at the Superbowl is one of the best pieces of art I've seen in my lifetime. I hope it actually killed some folks. And I hope it finally closes the fucking book on the argument that we shouldn't use the flag to fight the God damned fascists […]

Why yes, that WAS a lot of fireworks at New Years celebration in Boston Chinatown today!! Cold as hell, and it snowed 5-6” last night, but still a pretty good crowd.

Mike here has laid out some of the important history that led us to this place, in which self-described "libertarians" who used to claim they believed in freedom, shifted to become authoritarians hell-bent on seizing power and destroying the US from the inside. I may have more to say on this soon.

In Retrospect, Perhaps Going To The Grocery Store The Day Before A Winter Storm And The Super Bowl Was A Bad Idea - Part I: Woe’s Holloe

And I see a lotta people tossing around the euphemism “scissor cave” and just skipping “woes hollow”? I’m not angry, but I AM disappointed. #severance

So I’ve now seen the best credit in a show: “meow man” (We started watching Season 2 of “Mo” on Netflix. Good show, very worth watching, manages a very tricky balance of serious and funny) https://watch.plex.tv/show/mo

Not to be outdone by the U.S., the United Kingdom has decided that February is “clown show month.” It wants to spy on Apple’s encrypted accounts even if you don’t live there. https://wapo.st/4k2AF5Z

Wired magazine is making big US news orgs look stupid and incompetent. Wired understands what's at stake in the Musk-led database/payment systems takeovers -- and it's doing the reporting to tell the public what's going on. Example […]

For today’s @tedium , I wrote a lot of words about Manila folders and Manila envelopes. In the process, I somehow criss-crossed into the histories of toilet paper, rope, MacBooks, and file cabinets. It’s not a “vanilla folder,” and “Manila” is not a color […]

Over the weekend, I noticed something very surprising: Warner Bros Discovery, through its classics and entertainment arms, has been releasing vintage theatrical releases on YouTube without even a hint of DRM or region-locking. Some of their worst movies ever are among the releases. But so too […]

It is once again time to give thanks to Brian Fox, the Black American programmer that has given us BASH and `echo`! Thank you for your INCREDIBLE contributions to open source software, Unix, and Linux. It literally would not be the same without you […] [Original post on social.smallhack.org]

Oh, nice -- #Kagi has tweaked its billing so that, effectively, you don't pay for the service in months when you don't use it. See here for a bit more detail: https://kagi.com/changelog#6155 I wish more subscription services worked that way. (I suspect I would subscribe to a lot more things if […]
