I like progressive policies and Panthers football. Basically part of every nerd affinity group. Strong opinions on comics and board games, among other things. He/Him

My family has changed its shopping as a direct result of the Target / Costco divide on their respective DEI initiatives. More Costco, less/no Target. Also, Harris Teeter/Kroger is a good grocer with strong DEI policies that we are now buying household goods from. www.thekrogerco.com/community/st...

It appears the reasons to avoid the Super Bowl (Trump’s presence, DOGE ads, painting over “End Racism,” the existence of Harrison Butker) have finally overtaken my desire to watch the Super Bowl.

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

Semi-serious question: what the fuck are they doing at Yale Law to churn out so many psychopaths and fascists? Harvard has plenty of craven opportunists, which I get, but Yale grads are doing a lot of the more evil work of this administration.

One thing about me is that I will fight Nazis until I’m six feet in the ground.

[screaming sorrow and rage into the void]

So let me get this straight, Biden (and Dems) are unwilling to fight for the ERA to get it recognized, but Trump (and Repubs) are issuing executive orders opposing birthright citizenship (actually in the 14th amendment). Dems need to stop with the decorum and start fighting for the people.

Happy Fascism Day to all who celebrate it!

I've been reading @jenrubin.bsky.social for a long time and her courage as an increasingly lone voice in the wilderness and chaos of mass media is invaluable. So happy to subscribe. Welcome to the Contrarian open.substack.com/pub/contrari...

Goddamn, another "feminist" man who created art that I connected to during sad and vulnerable times in my life is a trash bag.

Proposed terrible fantasy football rule: first pick in next season’s draft goes to the highest score in week 18.

Reminder Superman is not a power fantasy, he's an altruism fantasy. The idea of someone with godlike powers using them solely for good (with an antagonist who is a billionaire, who by definition do the opposite) was dreamt up by Jewish kids in the 30s and its just as if not more relevant now.

Serious question: Why are white people so afraid of becoming a minority? Does America treat minorities badly or something?

So, I get that there is no ethical consumption in our capitalist society (Good Place problem), but with all the CEO bootlicking, it feels like there is no non-evil consumption either.

If you're even a little bit interested in understanding and/or improving at player evaluations - you need to be following @mattwaldman.bsky.social. Matt does such an amazing job evaluating players/techniques/skills all while explaining things in digestible details so you can learn what to look for.

What the actual fuck? The lawsuit against Target that basically says “having a pride month is reckless and constitutes securities fraud” is moving forward.

Insightful and scary. The world should not be run by people who watched The Penguin and thought, “Oz had some really good points.”

There is a stance I will call "Kavanaugh neutrality" that says the Constitution is "neutral" between vulnerable people and the power of the state and so we will watch and shrug while the vulnerable are beaten up in our presence. #Skrmetti

Important context on Skrmetti - the law at issue is about minors, but the ruling could/may/is-probably-going-to open the door for bans on all kinds of important medical care.

A little bit under the radar for a lot of MSM, but this is a very important Supreme Court case that asks whether a state (TN) can ban gender affirming care for minors. In a sane world, this would be between a doctor and their patient, but that's not the world in which we live.

Really hope Thomas Brown gets the chance to succeed in Chicago. He’s great.

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and this resource and shelter for the homeless in Greensboro, NC needs funding to continue helping our community. We need to take care of each other. www.interactiveresourcecenter.org

It isn't even that the hypocrisy is surprising, it is that there are still Dems wringing their hands over the idea of even trying to confront and resist these fascists. If Nancy Pelosi were a Senator, none of this shit would have flown.

Republican senators confirmed more than a dozen Trump judicial nominees after Trump lost the 2020 election & before Biden took office. One of them was Judge Aileen Cannon.

the reward Dems get for allowing - contrary to the explicit letter of the constitution! - insurrectionist Republicans back into Congress in 2021 is that the Republicans are now basically refusing to allow a duly elected Democrat into congress because she's trans.

5 authors of whom I've read more than 5 books (restrictions: novels, more than 1 series, consistently re-read): 1. N. K. Jemison 2. Max Gladstone 3. Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant 4. Richard Kadrey 5. Kevin Hearne

Green Bay is giving Christopher Brooks some meaningful snaps and he looks solid. With him, Jacobs, and Marshawn Lloyd, GB is good for a few years.

Deserves to be shared on Bluesky too. The funniest video of all time.

One nice thing about reading a lot of sci-fi and fantasy is that most of the authors I love are also very cool people with good values. Maybe writing about good versus evil is a helpful background these days.
