Happy birthday to one of my favorite writers AND editors in lit. I’m stoked for his next book, but if you’ve not read his previous books, do yourself a favor and check them out.

My second favorite @aaronburch.bsky.social story because it's his birthday. rejection-letters.com/2020/06/01/a...

Can confirm both of these are stellar reads and it’s Aaron’s birthday so really what are you waiting for

shoutout to thay bday rejection!

Got you all a present for my bday! Happy to send a PDF of my out-of-print story collection, BACKSWING, to anyone who wants one. Also have a bunch of copies of my novel, YEAR OF THE BUFFALO, that I’d rather be read than sit in this box in my office. Want either? hmu

The four times the narrator in Mary Gaitskill's "The Other Place" says "I don't know."

I’m honored every time I think about @aaronburch.bsky.social allowing me to publish this essay about limitless love, boundless poems, the depth of song, the communion of sports. If you missed it the first time, check it out—& if you want to love out loud, check the submission guidelines! We’re open!

here's my little friday afternoon blog about what I read this week and what I wrote today: aaronburch.substack.com/p/2025-week-...

new season of Reacher gonna save me!

The downside to being so excited about the current project is it starts to override/nullify that excited feeling about the last project being “the best thing I’ve done yet.”

Friday at the “office.”

"To want something too much, as an adult, meant you were obsessive, unstable. It meant you were a nerd, hard up, pitiful. Being adult meant having feelings about your feelings instead of just feeling them. Being forever once removed from yourself." — Susan McCarty, 2008: A Novel (out next spring)

Spent the night on zoom with a bunch’a dorks who love short stories, chatting about Mary Gaitskill’s “The Other Place” for two hours, and everything feels (at least momentarily) amazing.

Important reminder that Ernest Goes to Jail was the first movie I ever went to on a “date”

Every Q from Treisman seems, to me, kinda dumb (or at least not what I'm interested in); every A from Gaitskill is a little prickly and brilliant. The first part of every answer: "I don’t agree..." "I don’t know." "I think you know the answer to that." "I don’t know." "I don’t know." "Actually..."

listened to this ep on my commute today, prob gonna listen to it again next week also (finally!) became an AFWP patreon subscriber like @sheaserrano.bsky.social says: "the rule is the same as always: if someone makes something you like then give them money so they can make more stuff you like"

I'm done with class on Thursdays at 1, and don't teach Fridays, so am officially on Birthday Weekend Time!

every day I hate the internet more and more, which is a fun way to be alive

Have seen a few tweets last few days saying they’d read this for tonight and it was best story they’d read in a while. Also gotten a couple messages that people struggled to, or didn’t, finish it. So excited to chat about it tonight!
