Sequels and reboots frustrate me – where are all the new ideas?. But perhaps they mark the death throes of our self-referential culture. Let it fade away. A new generation's fresh ideas are waiting to emerge. www.theverge.com/news/613279/...

Installing government cameras in every household worldwide would be less invasive than what’s being proposed here. www.theverge.com/news/608145/...

If you want to better understand what is happening in the US, read Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari. While the book's main focus is AI, the historical context on how information flows outlines the Populist playbook that Trump is following. app.thestorygraph.com/books/278c44...

Once again, thanks @chriscoyier.net for the mention of my #DesignEngineer article on the @zeroheight.com blog. Explains why we're seeing more traffic than usual 😄

I'm happy to announce a major sponsorship of Hanami and @timriley.info. I want to see more useful frameworks and tools for building Ruby apps and I don't know of a better option today than Hanami. 🌸 www.mikeperham.com/2025/01/17/s...

@caseynewton.bsky.social @kevinroose.com can you please invite Yuval Noah Harari on Hard Fork to discuss Nexus.

Just how much is a billion dollars? This article visualises what an obscene amount of wealth it actually is. www.labnol.org/internet/vis...

What would happen if we had a way of defining signals directly in HTML?

@macwright.com Hey Tom, curious what web frameworks (if any) you're using with Deno to build Val Town. Curious after you mentioned Val Town being built around "Deno's magic" in your 2025 predictions post.

@caseynewton.bsky.social we’re all shocked by Meta’s policy changes, but we’ve known who he is all along: He’s the guy who created a site for ranking women. He’s the guy who called his users “dumb f*cks”. He’s stolen or bought every profitable idea he’s ever had. He’s been a ghoul from day one.

In 2020 I stared actively keeping a journal. Here's my journalling stats for the last 4 years: 2020 Word count: 39897 Entries: 168 2021 Word count: 54028 Entries: 312 2022 Word count: 35062 Entries: 181 2023 Word count: 37343 Entries: 208 2024 Word count: 47197 Entries: 213

I love this sentiment and revisit it often. I tend to treat everything as if it's a tattoo - permanent. This normally leads to not starting because I'm worried about making an irreversible decision. I need to do better a treating things more like a Hat or a Haircut.

@jamesclear.bsky.social Hi James, I wanted to ask that, as a change this year, you reconsider the “Share on X” link in the 3-2-1 newsletter. Would you be able to make this a Bluesky link instead? I would certainly use this feature more if it didn’t link to X, as I’m sure would many others. Thanks!

Disappointed - but not surprised - that Australia gets the simpleton cover of @oliverburkeman.com’s new book.

The billionaire mind virus

How my brain works: > Reading about Generators in Jekyll > Start humming Generator by Foo Fighters > Put on _There Is Nothing Left To Lose_ > Get stuck in a 90's alternative rock vortex

This little hack still the best way to keep my Apple Watch on during a surf.

🌸 Here’s something new: our first State of Hanami update. Everything we did this year, and what we’re looking forward to in the next. Hint: exciting things lie in wait! hanamirb.org/blog/2024/12... #ruby #hanami #oss

@ynabofficial.bsky.social can you please add a total to the “overspent categories” view on iOS 🙏

The conversation of 'projects you're proud of' came up at work today and I was reminded of Bip. Steph I started working together on Bip in 2011 when he had an initial prototype but needed help with the design. At the time there wasn't much like it and 'flat design' hadn't yet become a topic.

@darn.es more socials!

@theverge.com on point with these 2004 page designs. www.theverge.com/c/24247055/2...
