hey guys feel free to use this screenshot wherever you see fit in the future

read Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer over the weekend, what a book, holy shit. had to immediately order the rest of the series after finishing. still collecting my thoughts before I can write something more coherent about it but the imagery alone is gonna be seared into my brain for a good while.

They named a soccer guy after a Final Fantasy 9 guy? Gross, his parents should be ashamed.

looking back, AOL had it right. 30 hours of internet per month was the right amount.

🪳Tonight, on an all-new episode of Very Important People - David Hoyle Jr. (@paulftompkins.bsky.social) joins @vicmmic.bsky.social for an important convo on life above ground as a midnight louse.

here we see the problem with relying on the judiciary: there's no enforcement mechanism whatsoever. this has sort of been my assumption from the start, that if the judiciary tries to put a stop to anything Trump/Musk are doing, they'll just ignore them. what'll they do about it? jack shit.

As others have said, the greatest transfer of wealth in US history will not be from the Boomers to their children but from them to the US healthcare system. The US is designed to make people insolvent and to keep them poor once they're there.

the "best" part is how it's completely impossible to argue against this. he can just make shit up and millions and millions of people will believe him because he's "smart" and now he has inside info. it's maddening how this sort of thing is almost literally impossible to fight back against

If Fetterman shows up at the Eagles victory parade I call upon all Philadelphians to descend upon him Lilliput style and secure him to the ground then run in and out of his ears and throw glitter around inside his giant head

Just realised that "Gene Hackman" is the exact name that Hideo Kojima would give a biochemist

*nodding my head in agreement*

Scarlett Pavlovich just filed charges in federal court accusing Neil Gaiman of human trafficking -- and sexual abuse, assault, coercion, and rape. Amanda Palmer is named in the complaint as well, for exploiting Scarlett's unpaid labor, and neglecting to warn her about Gaiman.

Freshen up your fantasy protagonist with one simple change: Instead of making them the only one who can [do the thing], Make them the only one who is [doing the thing]. I guarantee this will make their dynamics with other characters much more interesting to write and read.

EVERYTHING IS TABLES is a one-page roleplaying game in which, well. You can probably guess. It's all random tables. PDFs and authors' commentary here: www.patreon.com/posts/120886...

this has been a real problem for me too, like trying to explain what's going on to people in my own life who are paying less attention makes me feel crazy. I must sound like a conspiracy crank to them

Chuck Schumer really has to be painted as a villain in his own right at this point. He's willing to wait for (more) people to get hurt for the ability to point to them and say "See?! Next time vote for us!" He has no intention of stopping any of this, and that's become readily apparent.

a couple months ago my fiancee and I were thinking about buying a house after we move, finally getting to be homeowners after renting for ages. it has since become very clear that isn't gonna happen, probably ever.

Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.

played through Indika last night, what a wild game, at turns really funny, insightful, and horribly bleak. would recommend, just make sure you're ready for some pretty dark stuff.

my outsider perspective on US politics is that it seems like i spend 4 years getting told the democrats can't do the thing because they need just one more vote, and then the republicans get in and can do whatever they want because half of the democrats vote with them

this is a great thread whether you are Christian or not, or religious or not. (I'm not any kind of religious myself.) it's something that applies to all of us.

Simon & Schuster’s flagship imprint is taking a big step back from blurbs, just days after @rebeccamakkai.bsky.social did a thorough analysis of blurbs and their downsides on her excellent Substack. The publisher’s explanation is worth a read, actually fun. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

halloumi fuckin rocks I mean I know we all know this already, I sure did, but I just ate some and was reminded. what a good cheese

at this point i believe that the dudes who come for the menswear guy are just sleeper agents whose entire lives have been orchestrated to give him dunk material
