Will British Labour politicians learn anything from the Canadian election, and entertain the possibility that there are votes in defying toxic American aggression, and making the case for liberalism? Or will they just keep on inanely chasing the Reform vote? Make your prediction lol.

Starmer's Labour have a HUGE majority, yet we are seeing no: - electoral reform - media reform - action to make the BBC properly independent & apolitical - reversal of NHS outsourcing - renationalisation of key infrastructure & public services - clampdown on lobbying - prosecution of corrupt MPs

The people I know who look at this stuff say the physical effects of Trump’s tariff war are already real – fewer ships and less stuff on them – but won’t hit shelves for weeks. But I’ve heard phrases like “on the scale of Covid shortages. Or worse” several times. And they can’t be fixed overnight.

“How Does Paris Stay Paris? By Pouring Billions Into Public Housing.” “1/4 of residents in the French capital live in government-owned housing, part of an aggressive plan to keep lower-income Parisians— & their businesses— in the city.” Paris innovation isn’t just about people-places & bike-lanes.

Not a single international cargo ship at the Port of Seattle. The port is dead. The last ship from China will dock at a West coast port on the 29th, and the last Chinese ship will dock on the East coast around May 10th. After that, there will be no more shipments arriving from China. We’re screwed.

If Biden, as president, had fallen asleep at the Pope’s funeral, it would have been the top story in America for days. Trump falling asleep at the Pope’s funeral today won’t be, because our media is broken.

The Internet of Things ended up being the internet of unsupported products. Google is ending support for 1st & 2nd generation Nests and completely pulling out of Europe. Imagine having to replace the thermostats in your home because of a reorg at some big tech meant it was no longer a priority.

We don’t need to accept the decline of nature - help us REWILD the Somerset Levels. Your donations can be DOUBLED for the next few days. With Gift Aid that means every £100 help acquire £225 worth of land for nature.. THANKS to all who have supported so far! donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05...

The future is green: The economic opportunities brought by the UK’s net zero economy The net zero economy has become a significant driver of growth and innovation in the UK, achieving remarkable growth over recent years.

Not only does this happen near a street named after Steve Irwin, the twins in question *knew him* (and they're pretty cool environmentalists who worked at Aus zoo) www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04...

"Wallace was also banned from the road for five years. " "Wallace has previous convictions for driving with excess drugs as well as *driving while disqualified and without insurance*." Is the law an ass, or is the law an ass...? www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

A Trump ally has told CNN’s parent company that they could avoid future lawsuits from the Trump administration if they make a documentary about Melania Trump or a TV show about Donald Trump Jr., which would involve paying the Trump family large amounts of money.

HOT RESEARCH NEWS! Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor... Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵

Never fails

The Arctic is the world’s region that has warmed the most, followed by Europe

Some may think I’m paranoid when I warn people that Trump could exploit a national tragedy to declare an emergency, suspend civil rights and impose a dictatorship. After all, he’s never attempted a coup or anything in the past, right? Right? Here’s my thread warning about Trump “emergencies.” 1/7 🧵

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse. 2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report." 3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes." This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

With Yoon removed from office today, by my count that makes 34 democratic leaders convicted since 2010. Only one—Trump—faced no real consequences. Trump's actions weren't uncommon. What was exceptional was how our institutions failed to hold him accountable.

We take tariffs on our beautiful Heard Island very seriously. We will be consulting all mammals and flightless birds and will make an announcement in the near future detailing our response. #heardisland #tariff #mcdonaldisland #trumptariff

“The truth of the Marine Le Pen story is simple. She fucked around. She got found out. What did she actually do? You'd be hard pushed to find out, given that very few news outlets seem motivated to tell you.” Systematic, organised embezzlement open.substack.com/pub/iandunt/...

Nobel Prizes by country and year. The dominance of Germany is striking every time. Before 1933, that is. And the utter dominance of America (and the UK) after 1945.

Shocking scenes today from Moscow as students are arrested by secret police in broad daylight. No wait. Fresh information just coming in right now….

“Now’s the moment to speak honestly about Brexit’s colossal harm. Most know it already. Even 54% of Britons who voted leave …say they would accept free movement for UK & EU citizens in exchange for single market access” Spot on ⁦‪@pollytoynbee‬⁩ Labour urgently needs to start making the case 👇

Cost of motoring in real terms is pretty much the same as in 2015... And that's according to the RAC www.racfoundation.org/data/cost-of... If we're really worried about transport costs - we should look at buses (the orange line) as the poorest in society have no cars and rely on them.

From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of fuckup imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe.

“Wait guys, P. Hegseth is typing…”

New poll from Labour Together that really underlines just how utterly negligent it was not to change the electoral system for mayors back to ranked voting.

Eigg has 16 kids, but no play area to enjoy or share with our many visiting children. We'd like to build one next to our shop and tearoom, so while our 99 adults do adult stuff, kids can have fun. Please help if you can. Thanks crowdfunder.co.uk/p/isle-of-ei...

After midnight in Kyiv, it is very loud. The air defence is dealing with drones. The night ‘guests’ have been here for almost four hours already.

A driver who flipped his car, left the scene then lied about it being stolen to Police has avoided jail or any driving ban. Why? Because “he’s now driving for Amazon” and “has expensive car repayments to make”. Now we have to share the road with him. www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

a friend flying home to the US from Heathrow texts from the runway: “I don’t think I’ve been on such an empty flight since October 2001. I wonder if people are reluctant to come to America now. It’s literally 5% full. If that."

This, it needs repeating aggressively and repeatedly. Gas drove up electricity prices in UK, not renewables or wretched Net Zero.
