No. None of them can tell you why.

Wall Street Journal Editorial Board comes out swinging against JD Vance. Indeed, key moment in downward spiral was Vance lashing out in response to Zelenskyy's point on diplomacy with Putin WSJ: "It is bewildering to see Mr. Trump’s allies defending this debacle as some show of American strength."

What’s interesting about the Oval Office fiasco is that it was Trump who repeatedly claimed during the campaign that he would end the war in ‘24 hours’ and that he was a master negotiator. Did the guy sulking, then berating Zelensky, then kicking him out, look or sound like a master negotiator?

It's more than a little bizarre that the press was more vocal and judgmental about Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal than the current unscheduled rapid disassembly of our entire democracy and civil service.

Horrific: One of the USAID programs Trump just terminated was set to deliver lifesaving treatment to hundreds of thousands of starving kids abroad. Much of it is now sitting in a Georgia warehouse. Rubio's promise to preserve urgent assistance was a lie. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1921...

Good morning. It's Blackout Friday. Not a dollar towards the oligarchs who are holding our Republic hostage. Not a penny for those bending the knee to a fascist authoritarian. Give them nothing.

President Trump says his policies will usher in a new age of American manufacturing. But in one New England town that voted for him, Trump's hostility to offshore wind has tanked a company's plans to build a new factory www.npr.org/2025/02/26/n... 🔌💡

If Tesla's board sent Elon Musk a "What did you do last week?" email, here's what an honest answer would be: - worked remotely - likely broke numerous federal laws - had very public personal crisis involving ex and child - destroyed another $184.7 BILLION in shareholder value

Even the people working at DOGE say it is a lawless nightmare for America. In fact, they know it better than anyone. Thanks to these true public servants who won’t stand for such a dangerous betrayal of the American people.

Remarkable resignation letter from the Justice Department's chief information officer in the immigration review division — a disabled veteran. Obtained by @propublica.org's Brett Murphy:

$19,000,000,000,000.00

A reminder that this is just the House assembling a reconciliation box. The Senate's box looks completely different, and both chambers have to agree on what the box looks like before they can start the hard part: filling it with (Byrd/other Senate rule/precedent-compliant) stuff.

If you liked Abbot and Costello's "Who's on first?" you love this dystopian adaptation "Who's running DOGE?" www.lawfaremedia.org/article/who-...

We have incredibly strict procurement laws in the United States for this exact kind of scenario.

2024: Project 2025 isn’t a Trump plan! 2025: The implementation of Project 2025 doesn’t have a leader!

Just finished The Sirens' Call, @chrislhayes.bsky.social 's outstanding book about attention. I highly recommend it to any parent struggling with how to manage screens in their kids' lives- an issue I care deeply about. And an important book for the future of democracy. Thank you, Mr. Hayes.

@alyankovicdm.bsky.social please please please make this happen? Musk Not Like Us

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

USDA says it accidentally fired officials working on bird flu and is trying to rehire them In a statement, an Agriculture Department spokesperson told NBC News that officials are "working to swiftly rectify the situation." www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

This essay from Trevor Morrison and Rick Pildes prompted me to run down the answer to a question that’s been bugging me ever since J.D. Vance began posting about defying court orders: Are federal courts completely dependent on the U.S. Marshall’s service to enforce civil contempt orders?

I'm seeing betting lines for the NBA All-Star Game. If you're gambling on the All-Star Game, please get help. I'm not even joking, this is super unhealthy.

Very proud of the 8 DOJ attorneys who have refused to dismiss the Adams case. Their oath is to the Constitution, not the president.

The position I'd like to see House and Senate Democrats take is pretty simple: We refuse to cooperate with Republicans on anything until they stop breaking the law and trashing the Constitution. We want Musk out, DOGE dissolved, and the Trump administration complying with federal court orders.

Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.

For the love of country, this should be a concern regardless of party. Cost-cutting at DoD. Fine. Needed. But not this way. As President Trump says he is going to dispatch Musk to the Pentagon Recent Bloomberg News: "Musk’s DOGE Teen Was Fired By Cybersecurity Firm for Leaking Company Secrets"

It never really came up for me, but I remember during an anti-corruption training we were told that US companies don't get shaked down for bribes as much because foreign officials understood we had such tough laws against it.

Great point.

If you thought the Afghanistan withdrawal was bad (as I do), the #USAID withdrawal is magnitudes worse. Thanks to @anneapplebaum.bsky.social for succinctly explaining the rapidly developing global consequences, including starvation of children on the brink.

these guys are also afflicted by the delusion that nothing can actually get bad

someone tell ernst that neither the president nor musk embodies the american people and that if they want to cut funding they should work with congress to pass a bill www.semafor.com/article/02/0...

The NIH overhead cut doesn't just hurt universities. It's deadly to the US economy. The US is a world leader in tech due to the ecosystem that NIH and NSF propel. It drives innovation for tech transfer, creates a highly-skilled sci/tech workforce, and fosters academic/industry crossfertilization.

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order. TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

In Iowa, where agriculture drives the economy, Nick Peterson of Alliant Energy has heard the argument countless times: “You’re taking up prime farmland for energy production.” But Nick sees a different future — one of coexistence: www.latitudemedia.com/news/growing...

He's not a "kid." He's an adult, with an important govt job. The posts weren't "stupid." They were hatefully racist. His life isn't "ruined." He lost a job. Holding a govt employee accountable is not a "reward" for a journalist. The reporter doesn't get a cookie.

THIS is why Elon Musk and his DOGE cabal should be hauled before Congress to answer questions: www.wired.com/story/treasu...

A really, really important point I think people are unaware of (the correction to this article): “A previous version of this article incorrectly said the EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice was created by President Joe Biden. It was created by President George H.W. Bush.” Bush 1!

"The C.I.A. sent the White House an unclassified email listing all employees hired by the spy agency over the last 2 years to comply with an executive order to shrink the federal work force, in a move that former officials say risked the list leaking to adversaries." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/u...

Think firing the entire federal workforce will save America money? Federal civilian employees account for just 4% of the federal budget. Even if someone like Musk—or any president—fired all of us, it wouldn’t make much of a dent in government spending. Don’t fall for it.

There are two immutable facts when it comes to Trump. 1. Every accusation is a confession 2. Every wild assertion is a distraction Gaz-a-Lago is a distraction from the coup underway within our federal government, led by Oligarch Musk.

Oh thank God. So at least one good thing came out of the election.

Some very thought-provoking comparisons by Aaron Smith in the Energy Institute blog today. Many different ways to look at the corn versus solar comparison (including corn AND solar). Counting GHGs, still looks to me like the panels win. energyathaas.wordpress.com/2025/02/03/s... #EnergySky

“Forget the myths the media's created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.”

BREAKING: Federal judge in D.C. blocks Trump administration from implementing the Office of Management and Budget memo ordering a government-wide freeze on grants and loans as to all current awards. Judge Loren AliKhan also blocks agencies from implementing the order "under a different name."
