She spends her evenings as a serial killer on deserving(?) targets as stress relief from her day job.
Basically a dark twist/riff on Aggretsuko.

Like it’s actually way more complex and challenging material but I feel like a lot of people treat it like this whimsical, almost exotic or Disney like ideal that glosses over the ugliness it acknowledges. It’s about the good with the bad

Some old cities are still standing and inhabited, though what is of most interest to people are Old World Vaults, which often house technology, literature, data, and other things from the Old World. Most of it is junk and destroyed by the time they're opened, but even a single data pad is valuable.

She's one of many researchers- The Old World is what they call the era/time prior to a cataclysm that wiped that civilization out. Teya lives in The New World, which is rising up from those ashes after about a century and a half of "recovery".
The Old World still has many remains around.
