So, since bad history is damaging: when the civil rights movement talked about "nonviolence" they meant a set of tactics. They planned actions for maximum disruption and intentionally defied police and laws. This is very different from how "peaceful protest" is meant by many using it today.

It's interesting to me that the English identify with the Anglo-Saxons, even though they were kind of in the middle of many waves of invasion/migration. I guess it's largely because it was their language that remained.

I’m specific about elected officials because this would be extremely unusual behavior for a governor or a few dozen state senators or dozens of mayors to all organize some sort of protest to argue against cuts that will basically make their states and cities hellscapes with zero federal backup
