Ending the two-child benefit cap would lift 300,000 kids out of poverty. It’s a no brainer.

👥🙌👥 From north to south, ACORN members have stood shoulder to shoulder to keep our people in their homes this week. In Bradford, Birmingham, Brighton and Lambeth, we have turned away bully bailiffs and the police, marched on councils and taken the fight to complicit letting agents…

If landlords decide to sell up would it REALLY be a disaster for tenants?

Today ACORN Bristol & medical professionals from Medact released a damning report highlighting the devastating effects that the evacuation of Barton House and the aftermath has had on the physical and mental health of residents (🧵)

Councils are actings like loan sharks🦈 If you think banks are harsh, wait until you miss a council tax payment👇 That’s why we’re fighting to Boot the Baillifs!

Evictions? Not on our watch💪 This morning, ACORN Lambeth defended our member from eviction by bully bailiffs hired by Lambeth Council. Our members aren’t alone.

Yet another unsustainable rise in rents - time for the government to put a stop to rip off rents and stop landlords treating tenants as cash cows. Rent controls are long overdue and are badly needed to give all renters a home they can afford.

ACORN wins again🎉🎉 After months of work and multiple direct actions against Shaifta’s landlord and estate agent, today we finally got the Section 21 eviction notice OVERTURNED, with a new contract signed. When we stand together and organise in our communities, we can win💪

🚨 BREAKING: Average UK private rents increased by 8.7% over the last year. The average monthly rent is now £1,332.

💪 ACORN Birmingham have started a new campaign in Wells Tower after finding awful disrepair caused by council neglect. Residents are ready to fight tooth and nail for their homes and families. We won’t stop until we win!

In the 1920s, Vienna started to build lots of high quality social housing. Unlike the UK, it didn't stop. Today, more that 60% of the city's population lives in beautiful and affordable social housing like this... Great thread from our Head Organiser @nickballard.bsky.social👇

From 1919 to 1934, Vienna's socialist municipal government implemented a comprehensive program to construct affordable housing for the masses (🧵).

If you’re a care worker, there’s not a single place you can afford to rent in the entire country. Rent control now.

Without fixing the housing crisis, the cost of living crisis will continue.

We urge all supporters to read this, an incredibly brutal account of landlordism propped up by state violence. We applaud the brave actions of the @acornunion.bsky.social Cardiff branch in standing against this violence ✊

There’s no reason why a landlord would need a huge amount of rent in advance other than greed. No one would expect you to pay for 6 months of food shopping up front! It’s a huge step in the right direction that this is now being abolished - no wonder the landlords don’t like it!

“Far from a last resort, it’s clear that demanding rent in advance is widespread. Landlords know they can pit tenants against each other and solicit bids to create an auction situation where desperate tenants gazump each other with bigger lump sums.” 🔥

Tax. The. Rich.

The housing crisis is a political choice, not a fact of life.

It’s 2025 and in Britain, our broken housing system is killing children. This is entirely avoidable and is the result of decades of political decisions made to maximise profits over providing homes.

✊ ACORN International affiliate PSCC Palestine uses community organising to directly resist Israel’s illegal settler colonialism in the West Bank. Their work is vital, and they need our support now more than ever👇

🇵🇸 Since a temporary cease-fire took hold in Gaza, Israel has turned its attention to the West Bank and Israeli settler violence against Palestinian civilians has increased. Our affiliate PSCC Palestine is directly resisting this and need all the support we can give them (1/3).

ACORN’s Head Organiser @nickballard.bsky.social is now on Bluesky👇

🇨🇲 On the occasion of the General assembly of the Union of Seasonal Workers in the Sugar Cane Sector, ACORN Cameroon has mobilised seasonal workers from all the departments of the sugar company in the town of Nkoteng to build a massive collective organisation💪

Flooding is thought of as a natural disaster, and it is true that we cannot prevent flooding from happening altogether. However, the questions of who is protected from flooding and who bears the brunt are answered by the decisions of people, not the blind force of nature (🧵)
