Confused by charts? Me too. Come join us on Chart Chat this Thursday as we share how we measure confusion, and what we should do about it. www.linkedin.com/events/chart...

#TodayinHistory #dataviz #Onthisday #OTD 📊 🎂Feb 23, 1868 W.E.B. Du Bois born in Great Barrington, MA, USA 🇺🇸 A hero of #dataviz! His collection of graphics on the Georgia Negro at the 1900 Paris Expo stand out for the range of techniques used

Outlier is the annual #dataviz conference hosted by @datavizsociety.bsky.social and speaker applications for 2025 are finally open! The theme - Reimagining - invites all sorts of topics, from reimagining how we work to innovations in design. Can't wait for June!! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

An instant classic, should be added to every data visualization training

#TodayinHistory #dataviz #Onthisday #OTD 📊📊 🎂Feb 6, 1802 Charles Wheatstone born in Gloucester, England 🇬🇧 1833: Invention of the stereoscope, for displaying 3D images; also revealing the dependence of visual depth perception upon binocular vision

I think this is one of my favourite colourful climate chart type things, because it depicts two things at once: - Things are going to get worse, no matter what - The degree to which they get worse depends on decisions made today theconversation.com/my-new-dark-... by @edhawkins.org

I have no idea how Amazon's algorithm works, but the price for The Big Book of Dashboards is the lowest it's ever been (at least in the US.) www.amazon.com/dp/1119282713 @acotgreave.bsky.social

I'm starting off a series of posts aimed at helping Tableau beginners understand some of Tableau's weirder behaviors. Number 1 in the series is the problem of a single-dot scatterplot! What common stumbling block do you think I should cover next? #tableau #dataviz annpregler.com/2025/01/13/w...

Have you seen Google Gemini's Multimodal Livestream? It's literally able to teach me how to use #Tableau. It reaches limits as things get more advanced, but for basic learning, this is going to change the game. For the better? youtu.be/rrnafjcMB9g?...

We need your help! Please take this two-question survey about whether you think most dashboards fail. I'm working with Jeff Shaffer, @acotgreave.bsky.social and @abmakulec.bsky.social and with just a few more responses we'll be able to narrow the margin of error. www.surveymonkey.com/r/K6YGR6Z

@ivanbrett.bsky.social Piary #1500 (5): Fifteen hundred days ago we started Piary. Here we are, thanks to Covid lockdown and Ivan's great idea. Thank you!

Michael Scott: "Wow, graphs AND charts. Somebody's been doing their homework." Yes we have. You can see the results today as we run down our Top 10 TV Charts, and the lessons we can all learn from them. 📅Join us at 11am ET, 4pm GMT: www.tickettailor.com/events/datar...

A favorite recent project: Peakscapes. I love the layered looks you get in the #mountains, and I always want to be able to name everything in view. These designs provide a cleaner, more idealized view of the landscape than a photo can. Are they #maps? Or geographic art? I'm not sure.

Timely. We'll be mentioning Neurath in Chart Chat this week. There's a chart in The Handmaid's Tale that's a direct reference to ISOTYPE (sign up here: www.tickettailor.com/events/datar...)

#TodayinHistory #dataviz #Onthisday #OTD 📊 🎂Dec 10, 1882 Otto Neurath born in Vienna, Austria 🇦🇹 1924: Museum of Social Statistical Graphics and the ISOTYPE system, a method of showing social, technological, biological, and historical connections in pictorial form

How to start a data-graphics library, illustrated. "Once one gets locked into a serious book collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can." Details on each title here: www.chartography.net/p/how-to-sta...

You know when you watch a TV show and see a chart? 📊 And you think "Hmm, that's amazing (or awful) #dataviz"? If that's you: we're running through our Top Ten TV Charts in #ChartChat LIVE on December 12, with guest Donna Strok from IMdB. Register here: buytickets.at/datarevelati...

I’ve done a lot of behind the scenes work with the Tableau and IMDb datasets so I’m excited to be “on stage” for this weeks Data+TV live session alongside my pals @acotgreave.bsky.social and @markbradbourne.bsky.social Join me LIVE on X 🎟️ x.com/tableau

#TodayinHistory #dataviz #OTD 📊 💀Nov 27, 1959 Willard Cope Brinton died in New York, USA 🇺🇸 1914: Pictograms to represent a series of numbers by icons (combining concepts of the bar graph and pictogram of varying size) [He got things wrong using linear size, ignoring effect of area on perception]

Can't wait to hear from this incredible panel about their thoughts on the industry and where it's going - what's a time of change for #dataviz

Hard recommend for the latest Chart Chat discussion on YouTube at www.youtube.com/live/VZ-cw76... - with guest Giorgia Lupi and hosts @abmakulec.bsky.social, @datarevelations.com, @acotgreave.bsky.social and Jeff Shaffer

Happy I followed Bluesky herd to reconnect with #dataviz community. Only now discovered Georgia Lupi's My Life with Long Covid via youtube.com/@chartchatlive. Devastating and beautiful. www.nytimes.com/interactive/... thx @abmakulec.bsky.social, @acotgreave.bsky.social @datarevelations.com

UX fail in men's bathroom. 1️⃣Most people think it's soap. 2️⃣How are you supposed to use this? Wrong dispenser type surely?
