If concern is about making revenue shouldn’t we continue the service that makes the most back? This isn’t equitable and it’s not financially wise. Keep the tunnel service open for people that need the service for connections, not corporations.

The mayor has said that he’s against the tunnel service because it subsidizes US businesses, but we’re keeping the one service that subsidies the US businesses the most? 2/3 of tunnel bus revenue comes from commuter service and brings Americans to Canada.

In addition the majority of revenue comes from commuter riders, therefore the best use of taxpayer funds would be to continue the service so the city can recover fares. We call on council to continue the service as long as possible!

ATWE’s position is that there should be no separate ending to the transit service. A majority of council voted to keep the route in place & recognized the importance of commuter access. +

Administration recommends maintaining the special events bus to/from Detroit until Dec 30th, allowing the city to “generate revenue from events” which would help to offset an expected variance & “cost pressures” in the 2025 operating budget that result from paid federally mandated sick days. +

That date, the report said, aligns with a process at Transit Windsor that sees operators sign up for shifts based on seniority. New shifts and a new service implementation plan are scheduled to begin in September. +

A staff report going to a city council committee next week suggests an August 31st end to the unique cross-border public transit service, which Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens chopped from the city’s budget earlier this year. +

The program provides students with a convenient and free way to travel throughout the community during March Break while fostering independent travel skills and supporting future transit use.

In an era where Council has consistently voted against measures of social good, stating that addressing homelessness, equality etc is a Provincial/Federal gov issue, it's disappointing that the Mayor & Councillors McKenzie & Gignac have now decided that border control is a Municipal responsibility.

Mayor Dilkens has made it clear, through his constant rhetoric targeting the Federal Government and Justin Trudeau, that his decision is driven by partisan allegiances. ATWE condemns these statements. Partisanship and personal political ambition have no place in municipal government. +

Presidents and Mayors come and go, but our families and relationships cross borders.

The meeting is happening at 9am over zoom. There’s no comments from councillors or the public allowed. This vote is crucial to save the tunnel bus. Please email all the city councillors and tell them you want to keep the Windsor Detroit tunnel bus. +

After another tragic pedestrian death last month, this project is a good reminder that transit can help the city reach its Vision Zero goals. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #windsorontario #yqg #transitwindsor

It will also look into sidewalks for the park, develop an active transportation plan for access, & speak with business owners in the park about possible temporary options to further improve transit service by using their properties as part of a route. + www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

🚨Residents in wards 4, 5 & 6 contact your councillor to pressure them to vote against the Mayor’s veto. If we can change just 1 vote, the veto won’t pass🚨 We condemn the Mayor’s use of veto power to end the tunnel bus service. activatetransitwindsoressex.ca/budget-2025-... #windsorontario #yqg

The tunnel bus, and transit as a whole, is a vital part of our city. Use our form to write to your Councillor in less than 1 minute and demand they revisit these changes, before they irreparably harm our community ⬇️ activatetransitwindsoressex.ca/budget-2025-...

Council has specifically targeted the tunnel bus, a historic service provided by the City of Windsor that allows for anyone to safely cross the border. Without it, the only way to cross is in your own car. +
