So proud to share Leaf Glow - Spectroscope’s beautiful new building projection. A climate change and cancer informed artwork using cellular plant imagery from Ham Green House gardens, North Somerset. Thank you to Penny Brohn UK, a cancer wellbeing charity for partnering with us on this #leafglow

Poetic, poignant joyous words and music with Hugh Nankivell and Graham Browning at house concert last night. Catch them if you can. Thankyou to our host Sarah

On the 60th anniversary of Jennie Lee’s White Paper, a very significant moment for arts and culture in England. @artscouncilengland.bsky.social will be delivering several strands - more news on these in due course... www.gov.uk/government/n...

There’s a brilliant, BRILLIANT part about differing generational reactions to the following story: A man used ChatGPT to write a love letter to his wife. She cried and said she’d never felt so loved by him, this letter was everything she’d hoped to hear. Teens find this a lovely story.

This is very good. open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/a...

Go kids! Come on tour to UCL!

Welcome clarity on AI, including fleeting reference to ACE SW book club ‘favourite’ The Maniac via DeepMind beating Lee Sedol at Go.

Thank god for Carol Ann Duffy

Not a red rose or a satin heart. I give you an onion. It is a moon wrapped in brown paper. It promises light like the careful undressing of love… —Carol Ann Duffy, “Valentine” in A Red Rose or a Satin Heart: An Anthology of Scottish Love Poems #ValentinesDay 💝

Loved this! Beautiful writing, great story, hugely enjoyable characters.

A very good read, this - with several references to arts and culture in the south west >

This was extraordinary - an orchestral concert/folk performance/Sami politics & rights/My Life in the Bush of Ghosts type fantastic strangeness, almost all in languages I dont speak, and very, very good. arktiskfilharmoni.no/en/events/ju...

New podcast! @profafinlayson.bsky.social and I spend 3 hours discussing reactionary digital politics, the history of the online right and the politics of the platform economy. We also have a row about Bitcoin. It's all here, and in the feeds: culturepowerpolitics.org/2025/01/15/h....

A vital cultural investment for North Somerset - proud that @artscouncilengland.bsky.social be overseeing this on behalf of DCMS, and full credit to the hard work by Jo Walker, Mike Solomon and the team at @northsomersetc.bsky.social > www.thewestonmercury.co.uk/news/2486436...

Welp. Apple snuck something dirty in our phones last night. Settings > Apps > (pick an app) > Siri > Learn From this App TOGGLE OFF. You have to go through each app. My garage app, my BANKING APPS, others had that turned on automatically. 😡

Imagine, if you will a counterfactual policy document, in which yesterday's policy announcement was that the UK was going to capitalise on our globally respected position to become an international centre of excellence - not for elite AI scientists - for the creative industries

This is a really good idea. I suggested to the #ACFM crew that we should try to do something like this about a year ago (I wanted a project called ‘Join Something!’), but nothing came of it. Very glad to see someone with a decent reach trying to do it.

Myself and one other man in an otherwise fairly full cinema for We Live In Time, so gentle encouragement for the chaps - it’s very lovely film.

This is niche, but I’m REALLY enjoying the meta-reflections of Emily St. John Mandel’s experience of writing Station Eleven, in Sea of Tranquility through the fictional Olive. Very satisfying small details. The Prophet’s death was perfect for what it’s worth.

Musk should mind his own business and accept that British politics has got to be left to the control of Rupert Murdoch.

Just read this again and it is, again, absolutely beautiful.

Well Kneecap is fucking brilliant then.

New to Bluesky and learning! Here are some reflections and thanks to local arts organisations that I have written in the Salisbury Journal this week.

This is a very good essay if you, like me, have been grappling with the changing world and what it all means and where we're going. Despite the title and heavy topic, it's actually more hopeful than most things (while still being real). rojospinks.substack.com/p/how-i-beca...
