University history lecturers spend much of the first year survey courses unravelling students' conviction that a source is useless because "it is bias (sic)". No, the bias or perspective is precisely what we're interested in.

Registration for IMC 2025 opens TOMORROW! 🐴⚔🎉 See our pre-registration checklist and make sure that you are prepared for Tuesday morning at 10am (GMT). 😁 Visit https://buff.ly/4hpap3M for more details. 🎉 Email us at [email protected] with any questions.

Happy "Microsoft trying to force CoPilot subs" day in the UK for all who celebrate. (They just pinged me my renewal notice with it carefully worded to sound like a compulsory general price increase). 1) Go to your account page 2) Hit cancel 3) Change sub back.

The cultural cost should be enough to raise concerns alone, but worth remembering that the cultural cost inevitably leads to economic cost in the long run too...

'The deep cultural cost of British university job cuts" bit.ly/4gnDCuE An excellent letter, in today's @theguardian.com, by the co-chairs of @artsandhums.bsky.social, a collective of subject specialist organisations representing and advocating for arts & humanities subjects in UK HE. #skystorians

Nazi salutes in week one. State-sanctioned ethnic cleansing in week four. But all the scumbag apologists who dared to talk about ‘over-reaction’ are still too bent and/or invested to row back.

We're delighted to announce that this year's ROYS conference will be held at Scarborough Library, on Friday 6th June 2025. We're seeking papers on any element of Yorkshire's past for the conference, now in its fourth year. Our full call for papers can be found below 👇

would you believe! the next medieval cathedral in England after Hereford by latitude is... London! I actually went there with a camera summer 2023 to take the only medieval bit you can see, the raised structure over the chapter house archaeology.

Is anyone aware of any manuscript illuminations relating to the 'miasma' theory of contagion and associated methods for avoidance of infectious disease? #medievalsky

For #IMC2025 we wanted to share some of the IMC voices who help make the congress possible! 🤩 In our first interview feature, we had a conversation with this year's Special Thematic Coordinator @steckel.bsky.social Read her interview in our latest news post: www.imc.leeds.ac.uk/imc-2025-int...

"Unfunded research" = basic research motivated by disciplinary importance, which forms the basis for funded research and the international reputation of universities that drives student recruitment. Without it, a university is not a research university and is not financial viable.

Good to finally be done! Thanks to all my family, friends, and colleagues for their support along the way!

I know this discourse has been done to death, but it genuinely astonishes me that so many people think it's okay to play music/videos out loud on public transport.* *This is definitely unrelated to the train journey I'm currently on.

We have exciting news for #medievalSky! The Digital Medieval Studies Institute is coming to the International Medieval Congress @imc-leeds.bsky.social! The first UK edition of #DMSI will take place on 11 July 2025 Friday as part of #IMC2025! Details to be announced later this week!

That’s that.

hey #medievalsky!

It’s cold out there, so rather than post about a site, here is my current #medieval read (perfect for a winter train journey). Beautifully written, a fave insight is that the word we often translate as ‘fleeting’ in Old English poetry literally means ‘on loan’, and I like thinking about that🧵1/3

Along with 12th century runes at Carlisle, Conishead Priory, and Pennington, Bridekirk hints at Scandinavian culture lingering along the Cumbrian coast, despite changing nature of 12th century English society, perhaps due to sea links with IoM, Dublin, Isles and further north where Norse continued.

🚨 Final day to reserve your copy of Medieval Twitter for £50 🚨 #Skystorians #MedievalSky

All things lead to the lantern tower at Ely Cathedral.

Our #Yorkshire 's past starter pack still has lots of space! If you'd like to be added, let us know in the replies or send us a DM and we'll add you to the list. go.bsky.app/QMP6cDC

#medievalsky Festive Content! 🎄🎄 The IMC office wishes everyone Happy Holidays and a fantastic New Year! Be safe, rest up, and we can’t wait to see lots of you at #IMC2025 🎉🎊

I wish universities would 'start to ask questions' about how many academic 'leadership' roles they can afford! The proliferation of vice/deputy/pro/associate 'leadership roles' over the last 10-20 years has been quite extraordinary.

Delighted to say that the Research Degrees Committee at Hull has approved the award of my PhD. Thanks to everyone who has given me help and support along the way, particularly @colinveach.bsky.social and Katherine Lewis who provided invaluable supervision throughout.
