One of my favourite recurring points in Number Go Up was the growing frustration of his coworkers that he “stop playing fucking Storybook Brawl!” Perhaps I should have said it was the worst self-management of ADHD in human history.

An interesting way to consider the difference of those who tend to emerge stronger from catastrophes from those who cause them is to compare Michael Burry to Sam Bankman-Fried.

Some people are going to post semi-regularly anyway. I was down for two days this week with the stomach flu that smacked my kids’ school, for example. Posting was not my priority.

I think The Savage Detectives & Soul Mountain may be my favourite novels of all time.

You could also include Herman Melville's Moby Dick, David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest (I had a lot of spare time as a teenager), Ulysses by James Joyce, Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons' Watchmen, & PKD's Ubik. But those first three are probably my favourite.

How did Anishinabeg societies deal with the rapists, fraudsters, thieves, & murderers in their communities? Those who were born & live only through spite & hatred, who enjoyed only making others suffer? How did they handle an Anishinabeg Stephen Miller?

But just as evil people can emerge from happy, kind, caring families, hateful people can emerge from harmonious societies. I haven’t yet found an Anishinabeg source on how their people dealt with cruel, violent people.

No human society is perfect. Anishinabeg must have had some people grow up in their societies who were greedy, mean, violent, petty, cruel, & hateful. Maybe not as many as my society, because such personalities cut against their values, where capitalist society encourages people to be terrible.
